I don't know Arizonian logistics but apparently you have to drive 2 hours in traffic to get to the game?

Who wants to do that after they get off of work? Especially for a franchise that is seemingly always in turmoil and never wins?

Can't really blame the fans for not showing up.

When I lived in Boston, taking the commuter rail took 40 mins or regular T and that took an hour to get to Bruins games.

I can't imagine a 2 hour trip for a team like the Yotes.

Yep it’s fuckin bad, the way the phoenix area is laid out it fuckin sucks it narrow and long so it takes forever to get anywhere

In the earlier days they didn’t really have many issues with attendance and I believe a lot of it is location

Ottawa also struggles with attendance because of location. It's in a suburb well west of the city so the drive is worse for most ppl than daily commutes to downtown. Then there's nothing to do around the arena. So dumb how owners shoot themselves in the foot without thinking of the fan experience.

Ottawa was in the top of the league in attendance for 10-15+ years at that arena. Our attendance is low because of a terrible on-ice product and various issues with city worker pay, etc etc. Plenty of factors go into it, sure the arena is far but it was never an issue before. Covid has made it seem even worse but we've seen attendance drops on par with every other team this season

Location blows.. my dad lived out there for a while, spent about as much time driving from the suburbs as we did at the game

Exactly. Combine that with the fact it is not a natural hockey market.

How do you expect that to work?

In most major cities going to a sporting event is easy. You take a short public transit ride and you are there. Then you know you can drink too and it is an easy ride back.

I am a big hockey fan but would not drive out far to see a game, get ripped off paying for parking and then not be able to have some drinks if I wanted to.

Does not sound appealing at all.
