How can you fuck up this bad when you get paid a fuckton to play hockey and get over 26.8 millions in debt without thinking about putting the brake on your spendings.

Edit : i just saw the post about gambling. Well thats one of the most fucked up thing ive seen in a while but yet we got bnp here where some people spends their paychecks here on a weekly basis. Its more shocking to see him go back To square one after making millions and millions

Apparently it is a scheme to avoid paying more of his debts.

My friend is an accountant and said his plan was probably to finalize his bankruptcy proceedings before he plays again.

Since he has formally declared bankruptcy and has far greater liabilities than assets he would be handing over most of his salary to debt collectors.


He is not losing much money by nulling his contract. The strategy is to save his body so he can play a few more years after his bankruptcy is settled.

I am not sure if/how this can be challenged but that is the reason. He had a binding contract, so maybe he can be forced to play.

What kya said, if he keeps playing now he owes every penny he every makes to creditors, forever. If he tears up his contract and declares bankruptcy, he could potentially make a bit of money again in coming years.

It boggles the mind.....

Even if he took a small fraction of his earnings he could live through dividend investments, bonds, managed payout solutions and so forth that pay out a consistent income.

5 million would be 10% or so of his career earnings. Even if that was chopped down to $3 million due to taxes/expenses he would take in $150k a year gross assuming a modest 5% interest.

12.5k a month for life if he just put away 10% of it... Unreal to squander so much money lol.
