that's a good point, Yzerman had longer prior experience before officially becoming a GM for tampa. He also rejected lolwild to be their GM as well., so he had a choice where he wanted to do his magic.
While Sakic is just a straight up badass, as he knew he's a colorado 4lyfe gangsta. The biggest difference btwn them is that sakic is willing to walk away from good players, whether they be franchise or core players. if he doesnt feel right about it, hes gonna find a way to get returns to further imrpove his team and stack it more, being peer pressured by the media/fans doesn't seem faze him at all. Giving up players like barrie or duchene isn't an easy task, i think 30 other GM's including yzerman would have tried their best to retain them at cap friendly contract or something. Seattle expansion draft is around the corner, his team will definitely lose someone good, but holy shit just the prospects ready to replace them is not bad either.
just seems like sakic also has some sorcery going on, anyone he brings into the team seems to have one of their best career years lol. He quickly patches and fixes problems, oh my team is a 1 line team like the leafs? np! kadri get ur ass over here, done. Remember Valeri? the dude that seemed like a bust and was headed back home to KHL or some shit? his nhl career got saved by sakic magic. Like shit man, take loui eriksson and he would become a 30g scorer again instead of a meme emptynet specialist god
I was going to write out a list of why I was really impressed with what Sakic has done thus far.
You pretty well covered everything already haha.
Voted Yzerman seeing he has won the ultimate prize. In a few years though I think it will be Sakic. He has positioned Colorado from basement dweller to talent loaded contender in a short amount of time without crippling contracts.
