I thought it was great, i knew he had troubles but it shed alot of light on who he was as a person, outside of all the fighting, booze, and coke.

Watched the Probert Documentary. It was really good. Going to be watching Russian Five tonight.

Probert must have been a terrific human being because despite his problems his family remained so loyal to him. You could tell from the footage the guy had a good heart but struggled with his personal battles.

I loved the footage of Steve Yzerman mocking Tie Domi on the bench with the heavyweight belt celebration after Probert tuned him up in one of their many rematches.

I never saw that footage before. Also thought it was really cool that future hall of famers were all asking to meet Bob Probert at the all star game. He certainly had the respect of his peers.

Yeah man 100%.
Everybody always saw him as the thug who ran around boozin and druggin, but he had a huge heart, his family all loved him so much. A totally different side of what was portrayed in the media, especially in michigan. The fans loved him for fighting, but the media really hated him.

You'll really like the russian five too, theres soooo many cool little details that they explain in that one on how they got them out of russia, its like a crazy spy movie, but was real life lmao

Watched Russian 5. Very interesting documentary.

Did not realize how many times Detroit failed to win a cup with very strong teams.

Gutsy move to bring in an older Fetisov and Larionov. That put them over the edge.

Trading a much younger and consistent goal scorer like Ray Sheppard for an 36 year old Larionov was beyond ballsy....

Have to give credit to management for making those decisions and even Illitch should be credited for having the patience so see it all through.

The Terminator Vlad posters were really cool as well. I knew he was a good d-man but did not know the extent to which he was revered by fans and team mates alike.

Yup, my favorite thing was that they literally had to sneak these guys out of russia (with the exception of fetisov and larionov who were already here playing for NJ and SJ respectively) such wild times for sure lol
The biggest risk imo was drafting them in the first place with no guarantee they would even want to come over, especially fedorov and kozlov, drafted in the 3rd/4th rounds, those were potentially valuable picks, so risking it on a russian without even speaking to the player about defecting was an insane gamble.

Ya It was something else. The risk and danger by everyone involved just to get a star hockey player on your team.

If that topic interests you I would suggest reading Breakaway by Tal Pinchevsky.

The book goes back to the 1970's and begins with the story of Vaclav Nedomansky, the first player to defect and play pro hockey in North America.

There is a documentary on Grant Fuhr called making Coco.

If you have prime you can subscribe to super channel for a month for free and watch it.

I really enjoyed it.

I always recalled Fuhr as the goalie behind the Oilers Dynasty but never appreciated his accomplishments playing with the Blues.

Playing 79 games well into your 30's is pretty impressive.
