I would agree with this. If this could be achieved, utility would be maximized.
Sadly this is not possible as everyone has a different reward system. The footholds to coerce individuals to fall in line closer to the majority is in place, but it will not be a strong enough deterrent for everyone.
The way society is set up now you are less likely to be successful (depending on what your definition of that is) if you were to abide by the all of the rules and prevailing beliefs/morals. For some the threat of social rejection, ridicule, financial penalization, or incarceration is not enough to prevent deviant behavior.
I think that is why those who are deviant from the norm are willing to step out from the majority thought process because of a perception that their self interests will be better serviced when weighed against the odds.
I appreciate your input. These type of conversations interest me and stress me out at the same time lol.
Capitalism as a system panders to greed, competition & self interest. We’ve built a system that benefits the deviant as you put it.
Certainly when i talk about changing it im talking about an ideal state, and something that would take generations on reconditioning.
I actually believe some better social systems fo exist but can only be maintained in very small community sizes (small tribes and groups)
But the does not scale out, you are less likely to want to help your fellow man when they are on the other side of the country.
This gets back to that self interest, i will help my neighbor because i get rewarded with status in the community or feel good. In a large scale communitarian society why help the person across the world you dont share a community for them to reward you with status in.
Realistically im in sales, as a middleman, the one of the most capitalist jobs imaginable lmao
