First off, Karlsson is 27, how would he NOT help your shit ass team in 3 years when you supposedly say they will be ready to compete? Are you dumb or do you enjoy tanking? God damn I hope he doesn't go to Edmonton lol it's one of the few places worse than Ottawa to be atm
I know he’s 27, maybe I wasnt clear. Of course he’d help this team next year, but enough to win a cup? maybe but is that worth the risk he decides to just go to UFA anyways? Oilers trading for Karlson would be short sited and thinking 2/3 good years now is worth the next 5 when there’s no depth in the organization to put a team on the ice after your opening line-up.
Paying 29/97 upfront instead of later like Chicago did means we will likely have to wait till cap goes up and other teams are paying their stars larger contracts and if we win cups it will be in the second half of 97’s contract similar to how Pittsburgh did it. And yes I know Pittsburgh won 1 early , look what we just did with 97’s last elc year tho.
This team isn’t ready to mortgage the future for the next 2 years mainly because the previous years our organizational depth has been so patheticly managed.
The only teams in the mix for karlson are teams in the playoffs and pushing for a cup this season and next and oilers are not that.

mcdavid draisaitl karlsson is all you need ffs, get rid of whatever you need to fit under the cap. That’s called management
more draft pick wont help you at this point of a joke the oilers are
Get rid of those pick, build a fucking team with grown man and start winning some hockey game
that thing called management is mostly having kids on elc contracts come in and play which is literally what you would have to pay each and every of the 14 others guys not on the ice for the opening faceoff with karlson / 97 / 29 on this team. Guess what you need to draft kids who you can sign to elc contracts( the answer is draft picks)
this is a young mans league now, players are over the hill at 30 more often than not.
