I just wanna say that it isnt even close if you compare Couturier and Bergeron in puck possession statistics, and overall shots for versus against when each player is on the ice. I'm not shitting on Couts either, he's very similar statistically to Backlund (Calgary 2nd line C who everyone around here thought should have been nominated for a Selke last year), Bergeron is just that elite

Lol dude Couturier's offensive zone starting time is 43.4% where Bergeron is at 55.2%
That isn't even close and would contribute to your stats above. Bergeron does a higher puck possession by 4%, but clearly Coots starts in the defensive zone more than almost any player in the league.

I haven't watched Backlund too much as Calgary games are on too late so I can't really comment on his play, but Couturier is 7 years younger than Bergeron, and for this one season he has been a better player than Bergeron. My hope all along has been that he is able to make it to Bergeron's level of play. Now he just needs to consistently match it.

Before I posted I knew the first reply would have to do with zone starts. In my opinion, the difference in zone starts does not even come close to outweighing the possession and SF/SA numbers. Also Backlund at 60% defensive zone starts ;)

Backlund is a minus 6 with 29 points in 45 games playing 19 minutes a game

Couturier is plus 16 with 45 points in 43 games playing over 21 minutes a game with 12% less offensive zone starting time

And we are talking about possession and SF/SA numbers? lol

Let me also state that Coots is a plus 16 on a team that is basically EVEN in goal differential, and tends to have blow ups on defense/goal-tending.

Nice contribution. You showed up in this thread just as much as the Canadians have done this hockey season.
