reports coming in that Carlisle leaving the Mavs was due to friction with Luka and FO

Luka barked at Carlisle at the end of the 4th quarter against the Clippers "I told you not to take a timeout unless needed!"

Personally I think this just makes Luka look liked a spoiled brat, following in the footsteps of LeGM who needs a puppet coach to do everything his way

On the other hand, fans criticize Giannis for listening to Bud regarding defensive matchups, etc

Granted Bud isn't an NBA Championship coach yet, but he is comfortably in the top 10 Head Coaches among the league. Regular season his system is in the top 5 for sure, his criticism has been about not adjusting for playoffs

I do think that around the league Carlisle is considered one of the elite coaches, and if someone like that can't get the respect of his star player it seems sensible to me that he'd bow out and look for a better situation

Where do you think Carlisle will end up? I'm thinking the top candidates are Portland, Boston, New Orleans, or Milwaukee if they flame out in game 7

forgot to include some stat nerd that Cuban hired to give input to decision making is also another source of friction between Luka and Carlisle

this geek hypnotized Carlisle to park KP at the 3 pt line because of number crunching?

It has to be a two-way street imo. Part of successfully coaching the best players in the world has to be relational. You could be the best Xs and Os guy in the league but if you can’t win the respect of your star player you don’t belong in the HC position.

GB is making the same mistakes with Rodgers. When you have a guy as elite as he is, and who plays as important of a position as he does, you have to give him some measure of influence. If they don’t figure that out they will fracture the relationship with him beyond repair, if they haven’t already,

The question a franchise has to weigh is who is more important in regards to future success? In the case of the Mavs, damaging their relationship with Luka to the point that he demands a trade or walks when his deal is up would be far more detrimental to their future success than letting Carlisle go, as good a coach as he is.

Rodgers loves LaFleur and he is a fantastic HC, the guy Rodgers hates is Mark Murphy. Murphy is President and CEO of the Packers but he is a bumbling idiot

Yeah I was referring to packers management, not lafleur. Obviously not an apples to apples comparison but the concept of letting your superstar have some influence is the same.

Iirc Rodgers did have similar issues with McCarthy

that makes sense and I definitely understand Rodgers being pissed. he asked for Justin Jefferson to get selected and management ignored him, then he turns out to be a stud. have to think if the Packers added Justin Jefferson they beat the Buccaneers at least

the situation with Luka is much different because he is so much younger in his career. the fact that they were able to push the Clippers to 6 and 7 games these last two years was actually an accomplishment for their stage of development

idk, I think this will end up being a LeBron/Cleveland situation where Luka pulls the strings but ultimately ends up leaving because he feels he can compete better elsewhere

That’s his prerogative. It’s a superstar driven league. If the Mavs aren’t able to put a competitive team around him he has every right to seek a franchise that can. Luka is the greatest asset the Mavs have had since Dirk, they have to recognize that or they’ll lose him.

Carlisle on the market is fucking massive. I think New Orleans will Pick him up.

Luka is a 21 year old kid superstar he is going to bark at coaches. Especially in a very emotional moment in the playoffs. Doesnt Make Luka right, but he is a kid, so tell him to sit down and shut up.
