Nostalgia

Legacies grow after a player retires or dies in Kobe's case. Jordan has become better years after retiring lol. Kobe isn't even remotely in the GOAT convo so idk why he's even brought up.

But the 2000's were the best years of NBA basketball and Kobe was pretty much the king of the 2000's.
So many talented players joined NBA and wanted to be like Mike. The competition during those years were at it's peak, all thank to MJ.

Kobe was the most popular player of that era because he was on the most popular team and he enjoyed a lot of team success, but he wasn’t even the best player in the league for 90% of that decade, or arguably any of it.

Also the game keeps getting better, more competitive, and more complex

DM is right, it’s just nostalgia speaking. Players in general today are far more skilled than they were in the 90s and 2000s

Talent wise, the NBA has never been better. It will only continue to get better too as scouting improves and with social media and the interwebs more players are discovered around the world.

Who was better

Early-Mid 2000s: Shaq, Duncan, KG, TMac and Nash were in the conversation.

The only season he really had a claim to be #1 was 05-06, he should have won MVP that year. LeBron was the best player in the league starting in 07

Players in general are far more skilled today, yes.. but MJ and Kobe are arguably 2 of the most skilled players to ever play the game, regardless of their respective eras.

It’s really dumb to compare in general because the game is constantly changing and adapting
