Most recent article I read says that rival teams expect the 76ers to pounce on either PG13 or Butler if the Clippers/Heat fail to extend them.

I've been thinking that Lauri + upgrading their backup PG and another good wing is a better team than using that cap on just PG or Butler tho... in any scenario they'd also have to give up some picks and good prospect like Ricky

What do you guys think, should the 76ers go all-in to compete with Embiid/Maxey and if so, who should they go after?

They wouldn't have to give up picks or prospects if PG13 declines his 48M player option and signs to Philly outright, but Lauri or Butler would be costly trades to swing

PG is the easiest to acquire if they are willing to offer him max dollars. I’d be concerned with his age/health but he is the most seamless fit alongside Maxey and Embiid. Would be really excited to see the offense with him in it. If you could somehow gurantee health, I’d pick him

Butler I’d be open too but more difficult to acquire as the Heat would have to not want to extend him then Sixers trade for him. Though he isn’t much of a volume 3 point shooter, he’s played with Embiid, they like each other, and he would just bring so much to the team come playoff time. Age concern here too but all of the stars rumored are mostly older so can’t avoid it if they go in the direction of one of these stars

Kevin Durant and Brandon Ingram are other names that have been thrown around but like Butler these options aren’t easy to just make happen. I like the idea of Lauri, like his fit a lot, but haven’t seen his name in any Sixers rumors yet

Another option is not going the “star” route and surrounding Embiid and Maxey with a few higher level role players. The Denver model. No one has discussed this much in the media but it’s entirely possible they don’t get any of these big names. I wouldn’t be opposed to this

The idea with Lauri is to also have a backup plan if somehow Embiid's health can't hold up for a Kawhi 2019 type run. If plan A with Embiid blows up, then Maxey and Lauri fit well and are on a similar timeline

Lauri will definitely be expensive since you're dealing with Ainge though, I think he is the one for the 76ers to compete now and give Maxey his own team later on. They'd basically need to give up on drafting for a few years and probably send out Ricky

Morey was asked how he felt about this year's draft: "Immediate help almost never comes from the draft...We don't really focus on the draft for help now. "

Morey went on to say he doesn't agree with the sentiment that this is a down year in terms of the quality of the draft.

Morey, on the risk of older players being more injury prone: "I'll take the better team that you have to manage your way to the playoffs, than the worse team that is always available. I'll take that 10 out of 10."

sounds like the 76ers are about to go all-in

I’d be for it for those reasons but I just don’t know if they want to move him. And yeah it would cost an arm and a leg

Also, when asked about the Sixers specific needs heading into the offseason, Morey said:

“Someone at the wing who can play & deliver in the playoffs.” - lol, shot at Tobias. But I’d say that pretty much points to PG

This came up today from Shams

“The clippers have made multiple contract offers to Paul George below the max, which he will not accept, per @ShamsCharania. Los Angeles wants to keep George, but he appears to be heading towards unrestricted free agency this summer.”

Paul George while giving up no assets sounds great but they'll need to get creative with their bench
