I'm honestly confused on how this works, it shows lebron as the worst player on the lakers during the playoffs and westbrook is -2 and he's almost got 40 points with 16/26 shooting, it confuses the fuck outta me

It's points the teams get while said player is on the floor

Team A has 5 players
Team B has 5 players

Team A scores a 3
All 5 team A players on the court get +3 on the +/-
All 5 Team B Players on the court get -3 on the +/-

How many points the opponent scores vs how many points the team scores while the player is on the floor.

It also shouldn't be used as the sole determining statistic

this stat is often misunderstood as "Player X was +24 in the game" when the stat actually means "The team was +24 when Player X was in the game"

for example the Nuggets often put Jokic on the floor with all of the best players, so his +/- is skewed

whereas other teams will stagger their top 3 players with different units

The Plus minus stat has to do directly with a players time on the floor related to the score changing during the game.

If you sub in, and at the end of your shift your team is 4 points more ahead than when you were subbed in, then you are +4 on that shift for plus minus.
