I have a friend who basically makes his living gambling. He is diversified the way he does it though. He bets sports daily, usually the money line on strong teams. He makes most of his money playing dice in the casino though. He plays dice 3-4 times a week anywhere from 6-14 hours a day depending on how its going for him. He basically has a "system" he learned from a guy in Vegas how to make the odds come around to your favor if you play long enough. He tried to explain it to me, but it was confusing since I don't know much but the basics about craps really. He doesn't live high off the hog or anything and he gets $700 a month for his disability so he has to supplement his income somehow and he can't work really. It's hit or miss though still even with his system he doesn't win every time, not even close, but he minimizes his losses compared to his wins. He might lose 100 or 200 on a bad day, but I have seen him win thousands a few times in a row going (I usually go on Sunday mornings with him). I would never have the balls to do it myself, but he is kind of forced into the situation or do some shady shit to get by, so he chose gambling. It's still a feast or famine style of living, you're either up or you're down. I also see the emotional toll it takes on him during some of his marathon dice rolling sessions, hell I even get a little high off just watching him go ham knowing what's on the line for him. He is drained after playing it's pretty crazy.
