I think every Celtics fan owes an apology to Udokgod. To his credit, he persisted with his defensive scheme through the rough start to the season and now it’s beginning to flourish. His offense looks so much better too, deep passes into the paint to Tatum who are switched onto smalls are exceptional, and it really works well now with White in the team who has that solid all round offensive game (unlike Richardson who was a sloppy passer)
We can only get better offensively too. Law of averages says Tatum and Brown can only improve their shooting numbers from here.
Unfortunately, the all star break has come at a bad time for us. I hope it doesn’t kill the momentum we have going, and we can pickup from where we left off. We already know that Tatum is a different animal post all star, so hopefully it continues.
And I wonder how long it takes for other teams to start mimicking his defensive system?
I don't want to give him too much credit for the defense because the core of this team has been a top 5 defense 3? times I believe. Before this run, the effort on that end was inexcusable. As for the offense, you're spot on with the deep passes. They are FINALLY pushing the ball ahead regardless of who is running. Tatum said it after the game yesterday, just doing that forces the defense to set up in different looks which could lead to mismatches or easier offense. Not seeing JB and Tatum board and attempt to go coast to coast has really helped. White is just a much better all around player than JRich. No doubt JRich is the better shooter.
Offense should grow as Rob Williams improves along with JB and Smart making much better decisions overall for the team.
Too early to give Udoka that much credit man, but him using Rob Williams as a safety over guarding the opposing C is def something other teams should be attempting with their agile C's. I'm sure other teams are doing this, but not near the amount the Celtics are doing it. This is something Stevens never did either, so I'll give Udoka full credit when it comes to paint defense.
Also, Rob showed against Jokic that he had no problem holding his own 1v1 in the paint during crunch time. He can do it all defensively.
