or maybe Popp understands that the warriors are a very good team and any possibility of making things tougher for them should be taken

the outcome of this game was meaningless for the spurs. Playing the game was not meaningless, I'm sure he tested out some rotations/learned from the game...but the end result was absolutely meaningless. The spurs are locked into the #2 seed and a W wouldn't really have done anything. Sure, they would've had the undefeated home record...but does that really mean anything? The spurs are as good as the spurs are. This game had no impact on their talent level. This game had no impact on how they will eventually do in the playoffs. Using the "added-pressure" logic that we are with the warriors and their record-breaking win total, if the Spurs won and maintained the unbeaten home record...maybe they would've felt some pressure if they lost their first home game in the playoffs. maybe popp wanted to get it out of the way here.

The warriors NOT breaking the record would've allowed them to re-shift their focus on the #1 priority of winning a chip....but dudes were celebrating as if they already won it after tonight's W. They already accomplished one of their most important goals of the season....and they stumbled their way there. Meanwhile, teams like the Spurs are resting up and preparing for their first long duration battle of the year that is the playoffs. Whereas the warriors have essentially been playing playoff games post-ASG. Will they be fit mentally to endure another stretch of 4 weeks of intense basketball to win the championship? OR will they be too tired from all of this record-breaking nonsense

The thing with the '95 bulls is that they weren't trying to break any records....they were just playing basketball and broke the record naturally. They weren't getting burnt out in trying to beat any records.

Steph Curry himself said in the post-game interview after the grizz game that he "hopes breaking the record will rejuvinate this team so they can start playing better basketball again"

no way the game didnt mean anything to pop
he purposely wanted to win and tested out his near full strength to destroy the warriors, yeah there was essential missing pieces, but they were already locked as the number 2 seed ages ago. why would he play his starters at all?

he wanted to destroy the gsw psyche, by winning it would of made them tie or lose the record. that was at stake. and it was all out there in the open. his plan backfired when he lost. a huge momentum can be got by gsw now. theyre out for blood

idk man, both sides have a pretty strong argument....but i could see breaking the record backfiring for the warriors if they struggle against a legitimate team like the spurs in the playoffs. It would undoubtedly add more pressure...they're supposed to be basketball immortals now.

I'm sure if the spurs were capable of blowing out the warriors (like the warriors blew them out by 30 earlier in the year) they would've just done that. But I think Pop realizes that the warriors are a really good team....and as such he didn't want to reveal his #1 strategy in trying to beat the dubs in this game. Maybe he didn't even try to lose intentionally, but I'm sure he's not upset that they lost. The spurs are gonna keep doing them. They won't be fazed just because they lost tonight and the Dubs broke the all-time wins record.

yeah ofcourse that first part is a valid statement. if they lose this playoff and dont achieve a championship they will be scrutinized for the rest of history.

for not playing his hand i think thats garbage. ofcourse hes going to watch demos and do different matchups but this game was different. i honestly believe that pop doesnt have much cards left. ofcourse theyll switch it on at playoffs but i think when people say he hasnt played his hand. yeah he isnt upset, but he really did care which is why they played 90% strength

Lmao the theories to try and explain a regular season loss is just amazing..

You have literally tried to give excuses for Spurs just simply not being the better team.. When it is as simple as that and the other theories you can save next to pages about Building 7 and Hitler living in Argentina...

Popavich's non answers drive people so insane.. Why don't I sit here and try to make up a story about how the Warriors didn't really try that hard tonight actually, they are actually only playing at 65% and can actually blow teams out by 30 points every night if they wanted to but Kerr doesn't want to show his hand..

Because there is no evidence on random ass opinions...

Like I said, I understand its fun to make theories as to the inner workings of the Spurs system and Pop's great coaching mind but it could just be that people try to over complicate things they feel they don't understand..

Sure Pop most likely isn't wuping out the playoff intensity plays in the regular season, what is to say the Warriors arnt either? There is no evidence of either..

Idk if you are getting my trend/point...

As I said, everyone wants to make these wildish theories when Pop looses as an attempt to justify their bias.. If he would have won people would be claiming him as a genius winning without Duncan and Diaw, because he lost people like you are making a theory about how he has to be a genius and is just playing jedi fucking mindtricks with the NBA..

edit: apologies for the typos/grammar. Idgaf about proof reading the webz.

I think whats more realistic is that popp didnt lose the game on purpose, but isn't upset that they lost the game. The warriors breaking the record (as opposed to falling short @ 71 or 72) adds a little more pressure for them to win it all, and thereby makes it a little tougher for them to actually do so.
