“According to sources close to Simmons, he's upset that Embiid seemed to blame him for last season's playoff loss, when Simmons did not blame Embiid for Embiid's poor showing in the playoffs against the Toronto Raptors in 2019.” 😳
- @ramonashelburne on Ben Simmons

lmao

Fun facts:

Against the Raptors in that series the Sixers were +90 in the 237 minutes Embiid was on the court and -109 in the 99 minutes he sat. Butler was the next highest at a distant +15 on and -34 off.

In game 7 against Toronto, the 76ers were +10 in the 45:11 Embiid was on the court and -12 in the 2:49 he sat. They literally couldn't take him off the floor for 2 minutes without the team going up in flames.

If true, Simmons is just being a big bitch as usual, etc.

Yeah but Embiid stilll Dozer’d Simmons out of the way to defend Kawhi on that shot when Simmons had PERFECT defensive positioning. You lost that series because Embiid took it upon himself to guard Kawhi and Kawhi dropped that bucket in his bitch face

lol looked like perfect defensive rotation to me and Embiid was there and it was well contested. Dude faded out into oblivion though to get the shot off, if Embiid of all people can't block that nobody can

Sometimes great defense doesn't matter when it's an even greater (or lucky) shot.

edit: Also, Kawhi traveled on that possession anyway.

Ramona Shelburne of ESPN:

SIMMONS HAS LOST over $19 million in fines since the season began (each missed game costs him $360,000). He hasn’t cleared a paycheck since the $8.25 million (25% of his $33 million salary) that was due to him Oct. 1. Every two weeks the team sends a notice with an explanation of all the fines he has accumulated for failing to render services, instead of a $1.375 million paycheck. By the end of the season, if he does not play for the Sixers or any other team, Simmons could lose another $12 million.

It is a staggering amount of money. Everyone involved assumes this issue will eventually be settled in arbitration. But those close to Simmons, who has earned upward of $60 million over his career, insist his decision to demand a trade and then not to play until he is traded has never been financially motivated. He wants a fresh start, away from a franchise he doesn’t feel comfortable playing for anymore.

“We don’t give a f— about the money,” one source close to Simmons says. “That’s not what this is. It’s hard for people to understand. But if you believe in what you’re doing and that this is not the right situation for you, and you’re trying to get to a better place, the money doesn’t matter. Obviously it’s a financial hit. But you adjust.”

Said another source close to Simmons, “It’s easy to tell when someone is hurt when they have a cast on their arm. But this is mental health. You can’t always see it. But ask yourself, how many people would lose a dollar over this? That should tell you everything.”

The way the 76ers – especially Joel Embiid – are playing without him, Simmons could lose much more than another $12 million. With 30 regular-season games remaining and Philadelphia fining him $360,305 per missed game, that’d be $11,529,760. But Simmons would also be subject to fines for each postseason game missed. The 76ers (31-19) are second in the Eastern Conference, half a game out of first.

He’s also putting together a counter lawsuit to potentially get all of the money

Of course they're going to try that, why wouldn't they?

They have no leg to stand on. Simmons hasn't displayed an ounce of cooperation with the team to work through his "mental health" issues and the NBA will never allow him to get away with this and still be paid his full salary. That would open the door for countless other players to pull the same stunt in the future when they want out or don't want to play anymore.....

There was a legal analyst take that I saw and he basically said Simmons has no ground and the contract is fine and yes he will almost all of it if he continues to not play.

Anyone 'close' to Simmons saying its a mental issue needs to stop being an enabler. plebs dont understand Im paying you enough money that your mental state shouldnt be an issue. If I was able to be worried about your mental state, I would have paid you like 3 mil a year or w/e. But no Super Max You are supposed to be strong mentally as well as physically thats why I am paying you so much money. I am not paying you because you are good at basketball. I can pay tonnes of people vet mins and have essentially the same talent. The Supermax or max deal that extra money is there so that as part of the contract that your mental health will not be an issue or will be kept under control with the almost infinite resources we have available for that. It cannot become an issue when I am fucking paying you a fucking max fucking contract. People close to Simmons need to stop being enablers. And the wording sounds like they literally dmed a kardashian and that was her response

Simmons is saying he believes that the situatiuon he is in is not the right one for him. Thats what the source says.... Okay... So what about everything else? What about you playing like shit in the playoffs? Did you simply play bad in the palyoffs because you didnt feel it was the right fit? 220 million isnt enough for you fucking pleb millenials to shoot the basketball? Too worried about 'whats best for me' a fucking 20 year old kid with a fast car and unlimited women and we are going to listen to the 20 year old telling us whats best for him? This is a fucking absolute fucking joke. Simmons just keeps sticking his head more and more and more into his own asshole. This kid is actually abhorrent at this point.

Apparently Simmons for Beal straight up is the deal Morey thinks is fair, Morey won’t include Maxey or Thybulle

Shaquille O'Neal says that Ben Simmons direct messaged him after Shaq called the 25-year-old All-Star guard a "crybaby" last week on TV.

"So he kind of got in my DM and said some things and I said some things back," Shaq said on The Big Podcast with Shaq.

"All I said was you leaving your man out there and you need to play," Shaq said, revealing what he said to Simmons in the conversation, referring to Joel Embiid. "That's all I said and he said some things, but I'm not going to elaborate on what he said because that's not cool. He was mad. He was probably mad because I'm his LSU brother and I am. I'm still his brother."

Shaq's podcast co-host Nischelle Turner tried to use context clues to guess what Simmons said to Shaq in the direct message.

"I can deduce within that, what Ben said to you was, 'It's not my fault and you don't know what you're talking about,'" she said.

"Yes, exactly that," Shaq replied.
