I would hope they would get some semblance of getting their moneys worth on that atrocious contract

A guy giving you an average of 20/7/3 on 47% shooting as the third best player on your team is pretty reasonable.

The problem is that he's getting paid 35million to be the 3rd best player.

Still better than paying Al Horford 28million to be a 6th man I guess.

Eh i mean the Sixers knew he wouldn't be more than the third best player when they signed him.

But yeah, Horford getting paid that contract to come off the bench....yikes. sadly he's a good fit off the bench to back up Embiid, a really good fit assuming he gets his powers back from the monstars. At that salary though he better be a great backup big man lol.

aging PF's don't hold up even Dirk, KG, and Duncan (Timmy split time at C more when he aged)

Duncan held up great though man, the guy was a FIRST TEAM All-NBA selection at 37 years old...

Duncan wasn't paid 30 million to be a good bench player, and Horford has never been anywhere in the same conversation as Duncan at any point in his career, so to expect him to age similarly is erroneous.

The fact of the matter is.... Brand and Brown thought Ben Simmons will have a jump shot and Tobias Harris would be able to play the 3 but it isn’t the case so Horford coming off the bench is the best solution to improve the spacing.

It significantly lowers the ceiling of the team compared to having a player that could fit with the starting lineup. This is exacerbated in the playoffs where Embiid will play more minutes. What are the 76ers going to do then, play him with Embiid for significant stretches of the game or play him 5-10 minutes per game? Probably neither and somewhere in the middle. 20-25 minutes a night with Brown trying to maximize minutes w/ Horford in when Embiid is out.

lol what. if anything bigs age better than other positions. dirk and duncan had insane longevity. guards age terrible in comparison. players that rely on athleticism over skills age worse when those players don't accept that they slow down, and change their game.

horford problems are team related more than anything. And that contract was stupid lenght wise from the get-go, considering he was already 34 when he signed that contract. And he was a role player that doesn't even fit on the team. 1 or 2 year contract fine, 4 years tho = suicide.

he plays together with 2 players that basically play the same "positions" as him. Simmons have to be in the post, Embiid too, Horford too. Horford was never a reliable shooter to play off Simmons/Embiid. This experiment was bound to fail. If Simmons plays strictly on the perimeter, Horford would probably look much better. Him hanging out in the dunkers spot 80 % of all poss forced Horford to be a perimeter player, which he never was. His 3 career pt avg is 36 % on very limited attempts. He is not a high volume shooter nor a proper floor spacer.
