lebron fan: 'all Wilt did was score'

Me: 'he got 55 rebounds in a game, the all-time record.'

lebron fan: 'Competition back then was terrible'

me: 'the opposing center that game was Bill Russell.'

lebron fan: 'he probably didnt play any defense.'

me: 'wilt averaged 8.8 blocks at the very end of his career when they started tracking blocks. its also believed that he would have averaged a triple double in multiple seasons if blocks were an official stat. '

Winning it all with three different teams as the main guy is pretty impressive. Mj and Montana couldn’t do that. But all three are great.

bit if a futile discussion at the end of the day.

im more of a jordan goat and my reasons are:

jordan did TWO times a 3 in a row championship (incredible feat)
jordan has 6 championships (don't really care for "i was in the finals more times but lost") win is a win, loss is a loss.
jodan has more finals mvp (for now B) )
jordan has like 9 or10 scoring titles not sure bout lebron
it is widely accepted that defense was a lot "tougher" back then. Alot less babysitting star players with constant fouls given to them like harden for example (but still not taking away from the glorious skill and talent from today's stars)

all of this accomplished with the number of seasons and games played in out of this world.

its easier for an amazing player to make his stats look crazy when they play a lot more overall and that's totally fine, just pointing out cause and effect here.

the idea is to not isolate any of those impressive feats like... "oh someone else mas more rings so are they better??" argument... its a collective of these various absolutely impressive accomplishments based on how long he played.

but at the end of the day, i still think its just a meh comparison. its sort of hard to compare different eras even in the same sport because the game evolves so much over time.

I found the latest championship (#4) the most impressive for LeBron James. To do so in that fashion at the Disney bubble with all the Black Lives Matter movement going on was very inspiring to watch. Remember that LeBron and the Lakers were one of two teams that voted to cancel the rest of the playoffs. His mentality wasn't even on playing basketball if you really think about it. And still he played like an all-time legend at 35 years old.

Of course they needed to acquire Anthony Davis for that second superstar prior the season starting. I still can't believe that blockbuster AD trade just fell into their laps like it did. Luckily for them the Pelicans had drafted Zion and David Griffin, their new man in charge, was just looking to cash in his big ticket for the most young talent and draft picks he could get his hands on. Before that LeBron played with Kyrie and Love, and Wade and Bosh. Technically a big three each time. Probably should've won a few more 'chips if you really think about it.

A 4-6 record in the NBA Finals is still highly impressive. But I also can't help but think back to the heroics of Kyrie Irving vs. the Warriors in Game 7 and Ray Allen vs. the Spurs in Game 6 to force Overtime. If they don't hit some clutch threes late in the game that could've been two less rings for LeBron. Would you view LeBron any differently if he were 2-8 in the NBA Finals?

Ultimately, I'll never rank LeBron James ahead of Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan. I'm sorry but I just can't. Maybe if he wins a few more NBA Titles.

But yeah, nobody in NBA history is touching Wilt in terms of physical ability combined with talent. The guy is an absolute freak and we may never see a player as big, strong, quick combined with skill and IQ in a very long time. Other guys are equals to him in parts of the game, but nobody is the whole deal like he is.

Hakeem Olajuwon in the 1995 NBA Playoffs. You'll never see anything that dominant again.
You'll also never see a sixth seed winning an NBA Title. Knocking out the four best teams.

You have a point but surely defending LeBron James during Jordan's era would've been more inviting than today.
You'd be able to hand check him and really play a more physical style of basketball. It was a real man's league!

The game today is all about offensive play and three-point shooting. The Rockets have messed up my mentality.
Honestly, that small ball BS the past few years has made me forget how vital toughness, rebounding and size is.

If you ever have free time go on YouTube and watch the 1994 NBA Finals. Rockets vs. Knicks. That was no joke. Physicality all over!
I'm not saying LeBron James wouldn't be great in Jordan's era but the young kids today don't realize the tough road Jordan really had.

LeBron James would've struggled to win a championship in Jordan's era without a reliable post up game. Too many tough teams at the time. The Bulls, Knicks, Magic and Pacers in the East. The Rockets, Jazz, SuperSonics, Spurs, Suns and Trail Blazers in the West. I'm probably missing somebody else off the top of my head. Mind you, LeBron James trained very intensely with Hakeem Olajuwon in the summer of 2011 to improve his footwork and post up game, a few weeks after he lost the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks and was still ringless. He came out strong the following year and finally won his first 'chip in 2012 against the OKC Thunder.
