Good deal for smart but our main issue was getting Tatum help in handling the ball

KP over Smart is already a net win. He’s just a better player. 2 first round picks is just icing on the cake. Derrick White proved he was a better player overall than Smart last season so we had a log jam at that position. Brogdon is a completely different player to Smart. We need his fire power and scoring ability off the bench, even if you think he will never step foot on the court again, we need to keep him. Smart was the expendable back court component and the key piece to getting the stretch big and rim defender we sorely needed as Horford is aging.

Plus you keep bringing up Brogdon and KP’s health, but both of them played more games than Smart did last season anyway.

Smart was not more expendable than Brogdon. The Celtics literally tried to move Brogdon, but the Clippers didnt want him anymore because of his injuries. So the Celtics resorted to moving Smart which Woj reported they had a hard time doing.

Brogdon has one of the longest injury reports in the league. He has degenerative knees which is already a major issue, and now has a torn tendon in his shooting elbow. This is why the Celtics got him so cheap in the first place though. Good player, just has to be limited. In either case, the Celtics would much rather still have Marcus Smart than Malcolm Brogdon with a messed up shooting elbow that's for certain. But they did what they had to do to upgrade their front court.

KP is a good add, and on paper should give the Celtics a nice floor spacer. Horford is getting really old and Rob has bum knees. So KP lessens the load for both of them. He can't defend in space, hes a weak rebounder at his size, and is horrible at setting screens, but he can shoot which is pretty much all the Celtics need from him to space the floor. Still don't see how this helps the Celtics offense in the playoffs though....They're gonna run into the same issue once again. Live and die by the three.

You can surround Tatum with all the talent you want. They still aren't getting it done because he's just not that guy.

Pretty sure Brogdon is still getting traded. Well, if they can trade him with his injury situation that is. They aren't done.

“Brogdon has a health issue, a health issue that as I understand, is so significant, that not only can the Celtics not do this trade, there's probably no Malcolm Brogdon trade that they can do in the short term.”

Yep, saw that. It's pretty obvious by the Clippers actions that the Brogdon situation is not good.

Celtics want to (and need to) move him because of salary issues. Already tried and failed. But it sounds like they can't do that anytime soon.

I think you are underrating smarts defensive presence. He was Celtics best perimeter defender, he is not expendable, specially when you get porzingis back, who is a mediocre defender to say the least. The 2 late picks are the sweetner, but this move didnt make the Celtics q better team imo
