Daryl Morey on the radio just now: "People should buckle in. This is going to go a long time. This could take 4 years"

LOOOOOL I love this guy. He wants ALL that smoke and isn't about to let Simmons and Rich Paul win this war.

1. He's going to get paid
2. You don't have 4 years of embiid left
3. He doesn't care about basketball. Never did at LSU never did in philly. You paid him and are going to continue to pay him so you lose in the end

Difference maker or bust for Morey. He's dug in

Admitted they are only getting offered role players for Ben

He'll rot for 4 years before they give him away

Sounds exactly like Danny Ainge snubbing his nose at Myles Turner as compensation for Hayward, greedy for more and then ending up with a mid TPE instead

Some quotes of the interview:

We like the team. We feel like we are a very good playoff team with a chance to win a title. I think that is all you can ask for. -
@dmorey

We are actually expecting him to be at shootaround tomorrow. Bottom line is Ben Simmons is a difference maker and we look forward to reintegrating him. We are just taking it 1 day at a time. -
@dmorey

Everyday we expect him to come in and move towards helping us on the floor -
@dmorey
also admits that it does not look great right now

Right now if we traded Ben Simmons like he wants, all we would get back is role players, and that would make no sense. I would be prepared to strap in because it will take awhile. Simmons is a difference making player -
@dmorey

We will handle it like he is a player who can come in and help us win games. If he decides to not do that, we will handle it appropriately -
@dmorey
on what would happen if Simmons attends the shootaround tomorrow

I am focused on winning the title. I'm prepared to go through whatever it takes to help the Sixers win the title and what we are doing now is the best way to do it. The alternatives [a bad trade] does not. @dmorey

Yikes is right. This is the absolute worst thing Morey can do, essentially saying we'd rather hold onto you and not get anything for the next four years(which has a stench of vengeance just to stick it to Simmons) rather than get role players from other teams. This can be seen as not negotiating in good faith as I think, for example, CJ and three picks is a pretty good offer, and it would certainly help the team immediately. Or Brogdon + Levert + a 1st

It's absolutely a professional misstep to voice this publicly as he's now creating a viable option to point to as adversarial "See? They don't want to trade me in good faith." From Simmons and his camp.

Morey can't expect to get #1 franchise guy offers when by all actions, Embiid is established as that on the 76ers. Dame is that on the Blazers. Beal is that on the Wizards. So why exactly would teams trade their franchise guys for Simmons who is not even that on the 76ers when he is 100% buying in and participating, let alone melting down and playing games now, where it's also well established that he wont be happy in places like Portland or Indiana as a flight risk to pull the same shit. Teams like that are expected to give up #1 franchise player packages? What a joke

So not only is Morey now coming across as trying to screw it to Ben, but also to the teams he's apparently negotiating with while insulting their offers. He's in dick waving mode trying to "win" everything with everybody. Reeks exactly like a Danny Ainge move

And it'll only last so long as Embiid isn't tired of it. So who is Morey kidding with the "last four years"? Hard to see how this is in the best interests of the franchise, and if Embiid becomes vocal that the team isn't up to par for title contention as Simmons sits out, paid or not, Morey's hand will be forced to satisfy his franchise player.

Can’t help but agree here Corey. Idk about the Ainge part though. He likes to win every trade but he wouldn’t refuse to trade for 4 years out of spite.

I think this is the right thing to do by Morey. Players running the show has gone on long enough. Players that are divas don't need any special treatment.

This will set a precedent for other players who think they want to diva their way to another team. Hopefully other teams follow in moreys footsteps.

I think it's way more than that. What people are saying about Ben now is the same shit they've been saying about him since day 1. If the only reason he wants a trade is that he felt Doc threw him under the bus after game 7, then that's just not acceptable. How big of a baby do you have to be to want a trade after someone is critical of your performance. The vast majority of people go through performance evaluations at their jobs too.

I don't see a world where the rest of the NBA owners are okay with this too. The dude is signed through the 2024-2025 season and he is demanding a trade now. I'm all for players being able to choose where to play, and even requesting a trade a season before their contract is up, but if the league doesn't want to become soccer where the players have all the power and they go wherever they want whenever they want, then they will need to come in hard on Simmons and his camp. It is already getting bad with Anthony Davis wanting out a year and a half before his contract was up and then we had the Harden situation last year in Houston as well. If they don't do anything here, then I think we are going to be looking at a lot of more player movement in the coming years.

Maybe doc needs some of that…outside having a crazy stacked big 3 he hasn’t accomplished anything.
