Individually, and in that era, Bill Russell was great. But there were only 8 teams in the league lol. He's laughable in todays game though, let's be honest with ourselves here.
He didn't have to move on defense. Switching on screens? Stepping out to rotate on the perimeter? Hedging? Guy didn't know what any of that was lol. Bigs weren't demanded to run anywhere as much, and now it's not just running block to block. Now bigs run everywhere at all times, just as guards and wings do. It's an entirely different and far more advanced game now.
Anyways, that era was weak as fuck though. Everyone knows this. And Russell only played one end, he was an all-time terrible shooter lol. Not to mention the salary cap and other shit that todays league has. There's a reason why nobody will ever win like he did again and it has nothing to do with being better than everyone since then.
It's like when people call Babe Ruth the GOAT hitter in baseball. For fucks sake watch one clip of that fat fuck of a man and tell us that with a straight face. Athletes a just different now, as they should be.
