That they “wouldn’t trade Siakam for Simmons straight up” inherently means that Siakam is more valuable. Those are dependent clauses “Toronto wouldn’t trade Siakam for Simmons straight up” must also mean that “Siakam is more valuable than Simmons”

The organization certainly thinks that Siakam is more valuable to them than Simmons would be.

Essentially it went like this. Golden State was interested in trading before the draft and Masai tried to pull a Danny Ainge asking for the sun and the moon for Siakam, knowing that he would be a perfect fit for the dubs team that is in win-now mode.

After Masai got turned down (the request was 2021 pick #7, 2021 pick #14, Wiseman, and salary filler) he said that the franchise didn't want to trade Siakam. Masai commented on the trade rumors after Siakam addressed in an interview that he was frustrated by trade rumors. Siakam went off into a tangent about how his ego got bruised too.

Bottomline: Masai would trade Siakam but nobody would be willing to give up a ransom to get him, therefore the Raps will keep him and act like they weren't interested in trading him to protect his ego.
