pos 2 and 3 are amalgamated in todays game. interchangeable really. a 3 can typically drive better and a 2 can typically shoot from the perimeter better but again in todays game the latter argument can be chalked up to style of play of the team rather than positional duties.

i.e a small forward is basically a shooting guard. Unless you are Lebron James in which case a 3 is a 1,2,3,4,5.

Probably better than that ya I mean its a circus act but he can balance on the ball while doing the 5 hoola hoop spinnin and provide 30ppg so he cant be that bad.

Yeah that's fair, positions are interchangable really with how players are upgrading their skill sets.

Still..

FWIW, I've always considered Middleton a forward. Klay is one of the exceptions where he's literally a shooting 'shooting,' guard. Most 2's generally create, perimeter driven, able to dish, and be a secondary playmaker.

I like Middleton, I think he's always been underrated. I'd still rather take Brown or Booker over him.

Maybe not Mitchell? I think Mitchell's better suited as the 1 next to a play-making shooting 2.

Middleton looking like playoff Middleton I see....5-for-22 (23% FG) so far in the playoffs averaging with 4+ turnovers a game. Averaging a whopping 8 PPG on 23% FG.

Like I said he's on Tobias Harris level

Answer my Embiid response you hoe.

Why would you be mad though?

No matter how you slice it dude, losing Butler for RoCo + Saric was pointless if you didn't at least sign him to a extension... Instead, JJ/Butler got replaced with Harris and Horford..

They lost Reddick, who along with Butler, were very good friends to Embiid.

Slowly over time Embiid has seen the following happen:

76ers have made his life on and off the court worse every year. They've slowly shipped every guy who has complimented him well, like JJ or Roco, and then off the court shipped off all of his friends in Anderson, Butler, JJ, and TJ.

His former GM(Colangelo) was shitting on him on Twitter nonstop and wishing he could trade him but ownership would never allow it.

And now this season has been ridiculed endlessly, while Embiid has legit looked depressed this year, working hard for a team that hasn't shown much fight.

Eh, no not exactly.

Sixers traded RoCo and Saric for Jimmy Butler. They got half a season out of Jimmy Butler, and then he decided he wanted to go to Miami in FA. But instead of him just walking for nothing, the Sixers were able to do a Sign & Trade to get Josh Richardson who by the way is on one of the most team friendly deals in the league (for multiple years too).

So in all reality, Sixers traded Saric & RoCo for half a season of Jimmy (and a nice playoff run) and Jimmy was then flipped for Josh Richardson on a team friendly contract for 2-3 years. It was absolutely worth it...we'll take JRich over Dario/RoCo any day of the week.

Idk about Embiid looking "depressed" lol he looked fine until they got completely smoked in game 2. I mean everyone looked depressed after that spanking, but then again we're missing Simmons and he's a huge piece to this team obviously so we can only get so mad.

@bolded:

And you don't think trying to have the same success by bringing back the same team would've made sense?

Jimmy Butler has said many times he wanted to re-sign with y'all, but you guys weren't willing to give him the max. Which I still don't understand.. Also letting go of Reddick didn't make any sense either, but to each his own. You guys keep talking about Richardson's shooting, but he's only hit over 36% from 3P twice.

I really don't get the Butler hate? It's not like Butler can't create for others, he's just not a shooter, but he's a clearly defined scorer which makes all the difference in the playoffs.

I would personally hands down take RoCo & Saric for Josh Richardson, but maybe that's just me...

EDIT:

To your edited part ---- RoCo was also on a team friendly deal, if I'm mistaken, and still I'd say he is just as valuable if not more than Richardson.

For Sure Klay is your Solid ACTUAL shooting guard where he is catch and shoot dynamite. Danny Green did that last year very well in the Raps run. Ray Allen was a fuckin Sniper when he Helped Miami that year.

Thats what I liked about them last year in the playoffs is that Middleton carried the ball up more so he had that threat to drive which stymies the defense because there is also The Freak there. Middleton carrying the ball was elite. This year Its all Giannis which I think is going to hurt them a lot when they face Toronto or Boston's defense and they will get picked apart quickly. Too 1 dimensional. Now they know its either Drive or kick but the difference is when its kick to Giannis then they need 2 defenders in his orbit or it was Free Real Estate, giving the rest of the team more room overall. If Giannis has the ball every play involves at least 2 defenders, if Giannis doesnt have the ball every play involves at least 3 defenders.

But thats what Middleton as a 2 -3 provides, more than just a shooting opportunity.

Shooting Guard itself is really a dead position for some teams. Like Toronto, we have 2 Point guards. FVV and Lowry, that can also Pull 3 like its their job so the traditional Sniper 2 position is completely absorbed into the rest of the team. Gasol can shoot 3's, Siakam, OG can do everything. Our Shooting Guards are on our bench meant to get quick permiter buckets not delving too much into intense playmaking and strategy while the starters rest.

I'm pretty sure the Sixers were willing to give Jimmy five years, and some reports say they did (mixed reports), but he had his eyes set on Miami and butt heads with BB. He also wasn't accepting of his role in Philly, not being "the guy" and having to live in the shadows of upcoming young All-Stars like Embiid and Simmons. It was obvious he wanted out, he even gave reasons on JJ's podcast after the fact.

In regards to Covington, I love the guy but he's definitely not as good as Josh Richardson lol that's crazy talk. He can't handle the ball, he can't finish at the rim and he can't pass or playmake for shit (limited athleticism). Richardson gives the Sixers some ball handling and playmaking ability, as well as a nice mid-range and a better outside shot as well as the ability to finish at the rim (something Covington fucking sucks at) while being a really good defender. If there's anything the Sixers need it's guys that can create, and while Richardson isn't exactly a point guard he brings playmaking ability to the court as he displayed in Miami when he was their leading scorer on a playoff team. Not to mention Richardson is 26 while Covington is 29, and Richardson is on a more team friendly contract too.

As much as I am a fan of Covington for what he does (3&D), having a stiff on the perimeter like him that can't create his own shot is the LAST thing this team needs right now. Richardson is one of the few who can actually do something with the ball in his hands and create for himself a bit.
