Payton was 10th overall but the Sixers immediately traded him for the 12th pick (selected Dario Saric), as well as a first round draft pick (recovering the 1st they gave up in the Bynum trade) and a future 2nd. They drafted Dario who would have been an easy top 10 pick had he not declared that he would continue playing overseas for another 1-2 years, which worked perfectly for the Sixers who were waiting on Embiid to recover and tanking anyway. That deal worked out well, especially considering Dario was a nice young piece once he did join the NBA and was a 30 MPG player on that team that won 52 games and went 7 games against your Raptors only to lose to the quadruple bounce. Then Dario was used as a primary piece in the trade to acquire Jimmy Butler, who was then used to flip for Josh Richardson, who was then used to flip for Seth Curry, who was then part of the Ben Simmons deal for Harden. So...thanks Hinkie!

Also I'd like to point out that you were excited about every single one of those players until they crashed and burned

Who crashed and burned? I'd say Josh Richardson was the only one that didn't live up to expectations on the team.

Jimmy was great and so was Seth Curry.

Dario saric —- Ben Simmons … I’d also argue Jimmy leaving after one failed playoff run is kinda meme

Dario panned out though for a #12 pick, not even a top 10 selection and was starting and giving them 30+ minutes a game on a 52 win team. That starting rotation with Dario the year before Jimmy arrived was statistically the best starting unit in the league too.

Then him and Roco (undrafted) traded for Jimmy, I'd say that's a win. But Jimmy Butler is a cancer and we dodged a bullet on that one because he destroys teams internally like he's doing to Miami now disrupting the locker room. Plus, he dipped out because of Brett Brown who was fired anyway lol.

And Ben Simmons in 4 years was a 3x All-Star, 1x All-NBA, and 2x All-Defense 1st team selection all before turning 25. I'd say he worked out even if he never reached his potential he was still a great player lol. And he got us James Harden so it all worked out.

“ The question remains if you think this team can compete for a championship with these pieces … and so far in 4-5 seasons with the roster —- they haven’t been able to even escape round 2”

This basically sums it up.

If you end up with just 1 player like Embiid then it’s already worth it.

Sometimes u luck into more players like the warriors did with klay and dray.

Sometimes u get a bun like Simmons and Fultz with the #1 pick.

Despite fucking up all those decisions and ending up with all these bums, embiid himself ensures that the Sixers are basically a 50 win team every season he’s somewhat healthy.

Harden from from 5 years ago? sure

33 year old James Harden that is shooting 40% overall and 33% from 3 on almost 14 shots/7 3's a game since joining Philly

A defensive liability with a DRTG of 110.9

He basically chucks a lot of shots, doesn't play D, and makes good passes and flops around

Like he's fine, I'm not suggesting he's a bad player --- but he's not enough to get that team out of the second round

Also they either need to sign this aging star to a supermax this summer which could backfire or let him walk away for nothing

this man really just brought up DRtg in 2022 to try and prove a point

You are more washed up as a poster compared to 5yrs ago than Harden is as a player.

Well they finally got rid of one of the common denominators and that was the deadweight bum that is one of the worst offensive players in the nba in the playoffs so let’s see how it goes.

The only reason you still show your face around here is because of what Kawhi did in that 2nd round otherwise the only thing the raptors would be known for is Lebronto so please spare us the lecture.

Yes Embiid putting up 30-10 in the playoffs is the reason why the sixers can’t get past the 2nd round.

So they went from tanking to being a treadmill team. ah gotchu.

Oh look, it’s the guy with historically the most brain dead Embiid posts of all time. If being a dumbass was a sport, you’d be Michael Jordan.

This thread is just missing a few more haters and it’ll be like the good old days.

Just missing the Lebron James of dumbasses aka , and we’d be set. Did he ever come out of hiding?
