It absolutely does bring us closer. Even with Kyrie and Hayward, the Celtics would still need a few additions to get on Golden State's level. If free agents that want to join a contender see the Celtics making it to the ECF without their 2 best players, it could make a difference in who Ainge is able to land. Without Kyrie, the 3-4 seeding would define whether the Celtics have a shot at making the ECF.

The Warriors have 5 players making 17+mil/yr. The Celtics have 3. The Celtics road to the championship hinges on their ability to add another all-star (or hope that GS collapses).
