If Jones tries to pick up Tatum, Gafford can't match up. If Gafford backs up when Jones tries to pick him, White can stand or cut......even Tatum can drive if Gafford attempts to rotate before Jones arrives.....it's not difficult

Yeah I’ve not seen the mavs play zone at all. This video does appear to be a zone but it’s one video, not in a half court set, and the defenders are likely lost. They haven’t played genuine zone in either of the 2 games.

Now the heat were legitimately zone on a consistent basis. And it did not work at all.

Dm is spamming Tatums shooting efficiency everywhere like it’s some big brain take. The whole world knows Tatum is shooting poorly lol even he knows it. That’s a casual observation by simply peeping the box score. The actual high IQ take is understanding his offensive impact on the game.

Gafford crashed the board and failed. The Mavs defense is already in shambles.

Gafford was then forced to pick the ball or let Tatum run free. D. White sprinted straight to the corner once he saw what Gafford did. Someone is going to be forced to pick up him because there's no way Gafford would have been able to. Kyrie picked up Jrue and Jones shaded towards White because he would never have been able to match up with Tatum while Gafford would have attempted to switch to White or Jrue if Kyrie rotates.
Just because Jones and Kyrie shaded doesn't mean it's zone. It means they aren't stupid and realized Gafford is in big trouble.

That's not a zone. That's a terrible offensive rebound attempt that leads to breakdowns every where against a team that's just too good offensively.

It’s not a surprise that dm has no idea how to read a defense.

I remember asking dm in the pacers series how we could realistically avoid Horford being switched into Haliburton (when he was burning us early in the series) and his response was “hOrFoRd sHouLd HeDgE oN dA sWiTCH”

The most brain dead solution I’ve ever seen. I’m not sure he even knows what hedging is. But yeah, that’s going to work well for a guy who can shoot 30” consistently.

Celtics were never going to be able to avoid it because there is no chance they were going to leave wide open 3 pt shooters. Especially a guy like Turner who can shoot over almost anyone.
They've allowed Al to play 1v1 all year. I'll take that iso against Al vs. an uncontested catch and shoot 3.

You were right about the Heat though. Those 2-3 zones still haunt me. It was just embarrassing watching Duncan Robinson stay on the court because he could play defense by sitting at the elbow area. Fucking gross man.
