I'd consider it a success if they made a finals -- or at least two conference finals ....

But being a second round punching bag doesn't seem like a win from THAT many top 10 draft picks over 4 years

They had four top picks over four years. #3, #3, #1, #1. Half of them (2/4) turned out to be All-Stars (Simmons and Embiid) and the other two busts (Okafor and Fultz).

Otherwise, they had a few draft picks that were 10th or higher.

I'd say it turned out just fine. The draft is a coin toss and like Hinkie said in his resignation letter....the goal is to get as many top picks as possible because it's a crap shoot and you're going to miss on some. All it took was hitting on a few to completely turn the franchise around though.

Keep in mind that Fultz trade and pick was a Colangelo move, and Colangelo was a total disaster GM forced on the team by the NBA. In fact, Colangelo apparently overruled front office execs to draft Fultz #1:

Some executives with the Philadelphia 76ers didn't want Bryan Colangelo to draft Markelle Fultz with the No. 1 overall pick last year.

Per The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor, the divide between Sixers executives and Colangelo started during Fultz's private workout with the team last June:

lol it obviously is, even if Colangelo messed a lot of things up after Hinkie was forced out.

They went from the worst record in NBA history to a 50+ win team every year with multiple All-Stars within just a few years. Even if many of the players they drafted aren't on the team, they've used those trades to acquire the guys they have. It was absolutely a success in the sense that the goal was to give the team an identity and give them a chance, which they've had for years now.

Funniest part is "the process" was cut short by the NBA, hell they only did a full blown tank for like 3 years. Hinkie was forced out by the league because it was bad for business so he didn't even get to see it through. Then Colangelo fucked things up. Luckily the guy who taught Hinkie everything he knew (Morey) is now running the show and has made some impressive moves in his short time so far to keep the train going. They are where they are BECAUSE of "the process" as those years allowed them to stockpile picks which have been flipped numerous times since.

I laugh at people when they think "the process" era was championship or bust lmao. How many times did Hinkie even say himself the goal was to give the team a chance at being a contender the best way possible? 76ers tanking worked very well, which is why the NBA changed the rules LOL.

So they went from tanking to being a treadmill team. ah gotchu.

By that account, every single team that doesn't win it all is a treadmill team.

I’ll agree with this as a champion

If you aren’t challenging for a championship , then what the fuck are you doing ?

The question remains if you think this team can compete for a championship with these pieces … and so far in 4-5 seasons with the roster —- they haven’t been able to even escape round 2

Elfrid Payton

Payton was 10th overall but the Sixers immediately traded him for the 12th pick (selected Dario Saric), as well as a first round draft pick (recovering the 1st they gave up in the Bynum trade) and a future 2nd. They drafted Dario who would have been an easy top 10 pick had he not declared that he would continue playing overseas for another 1-2 years, which worked perfectly for the Sixers who were waiting on Embiid to recover and tanking anyway. That deal worked out well, especially considering Dario was a nice young piece once he did join the NBA and was a 30 MPG player on that team that won 52 games and went 7 games against your Raptors only to lose to the quadruple bounce. Then Dario was used as a primary piece in the trade to acquire Jimmy Butler, who was then used to flip for Josh Richardson, who was then used to flip for Seth Curry, who was then part of the Ben Simmons deal for Harden. So...thanks Hinkie!
