This isn’t true at all. When he actually does file those returns, the SoL resets. Then can get him at any time for failure to file, which in essence will make him have to file, thus resetting the SoL.

He’s an absolute moron for not filing if he had a requirement. Going to bite him big time. As soon as he files his next return, he’s going to get a nasty gram from the irs

they will allways get you might not be now but they will

(though less common for the low level peasants, they mainly go after the rich boiis).

Even this isn't true, sadly. The wealthy have so much money and resources that they can afford to fight the IRS, which is cheaper than paying taxes. So the IRS just doesn't go after rich people (who have complicated taxes anyway because they essentially take out loans vs. their income because loans are not taxable, among other tricks). Instead, the IRS goes after people in that bracket between ultra-poor and ultra-rich, where the cost for the government to audit you is worth the reward.

Government would make a lot more money and do the 99% a humongous favor if they made taxes ultra simple black-and-white, but the 1% control the government, so it'll never happen

And if he never files those returns from 14-17 then the SoL would never reset?

Don't you only need to file if you owe money? I've had years where I knew I didn't owe so I just didn't file. (College years)

You shouldn't have to pay to do your return. Forget Turbotax, H & R block or whatever you use. You can file your taxes for free at the IRS website. You're welcome.

In Australia, when you do your own tax, you’re more likely to be investigated. I just pay $150 to an accountant to do it and let them claim all the dividend expenditure in the world

Just go on turbo tax u can upload the w2 right on there along with any other paperwork needed so nobody fucks up punching the numbers in manually . & the goal of tax season is to owe and get back least as possible if you’re At zero owed and zero back that’s how u know ur doing it correct …

For people who don’t own a home or have tax write offs or don’t own a business no need in paying an accountant . I have a home and am 50% owner of a landscaping company I also breed rotties so I use an accountant just to make sure everything is done proper but if u are single, rent , and don’t own a business ur better off just using turbo tax for like 50$ and unloading everything
