the only reason we are even talking about her is her ACTION of QUITTING.
That's it. Not about her past, not about her as a person, not her race, not politics.

Just the simple fact that she quit on the team and on USA over a fking mental breakdown, then she CAME BACK a week later to grab a fking Bronze.

Tell me with a straight face that you are having PROBLEMS with people getting upset?
Are we NOT ALLOWED to get upset?

You are the only person who even cares.

I've been thinking about moving to Australia one day honestly.
It probably has a brighter future than USA right now.

not sure why so many mouth breathers coming out swinging in here

nobody is questioning the severity of mental health, we're simply saying let her deal with her issue in the right way, not just take the spot light away from your teammates

i don't need apple news sending my iphone updates at 7am to tell me she won a bronze; the US has nearly 100 medals, why do i care that this person got a single bronze?

imagine what it feels like to be the other girls, obviously they will say she's family they love her, but at the end of the day they are competitors and did more for the US this go around

why not let them have this moment and simon can go advocate for mental heath later

I mean the crisis happened in the middle of her Olympic run, not like she came with issues intent to steal the spotlight from her teammates. The news reported on it because she had the highest expectations coming into the Olympics and things didn’t go as expected, it’s more of a human interest piece. Then the media realized it was lucrative to write more articles about it because people kept reading them and arguing about it. Simone herself has been very vocally supportive of her teammates throughout the games

i'd agree with you from the media stance, it's great clickbait, but simone herself is definitely walking a fine line of attention grab vs support for her team

when they won the silver in the team event she shouldn't have gone up on stage for the post event press conference. every single question was asked about her and her mental health rather than any of the others who actually won the medal

the takeaway for gymnastics this year isn't the silvers or golds they won, it's how brave simone is for doing what she did

i just wish the narrative was "simone you've been great, and you did well to earn bronze, please get well and do what you need to do; now let's talk about these other 5 girls and their accomplishments"
