Philly wasn't going to win shit this year anyways so exposing Ben Simmons was actually a big W for them

If they don't trade him asap, fire everyone asap

This is pretty much the outlook some of my buddies have, who are not fans of Simmons at all (and haven't been).

They said if the Sixers made a run and made it to the Finals or something and lost they'd probably keep Simmons and just keep covering up the issues instead of addressing them. Now with the issues being so glaring and worse than ever this series they can't be ignored, so it's almost certain that Simmons is playing for another team next season.

It's mental for Simmons though, he's just not there. Idk if it's something in his personal life or what but he's just lost. He has never been a great free throw shooter (always over 60% though) but to have the worst % in NBA history in the playoffs like he did this season was just insane. And to be as passive and uninterested in scoring as he did the last few games just can't be explained otherwise...

With Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid on the court together in the regular season, the Sixers outscored opponents by 16 points per 100 possessions played (98th percentile). In the playoffs? They were +19.2 per 100 possessions (99th percentile). This speaks more on Embiid though.

Honestly, I thnk the sixers should just insist on simmons for another year, since right now his value wont give them much in return.

its party the sixers fault tho.

They should have made an effort in the player development department to enable Simmons to develop the ability to shoot.

Look at giannis. Simmons and Giannis overall are similar players. Extremely athetlic, big and strong (obviously Giannis is slightly bigger and stronger), but needed to develop "basketball skills", rather than just have a "basketball body". Giannis, while he still needs to work on his basketball skills, at least has shown meanginful improvement overtime. Obviously he has to invest and buy into the fact that he needs to do it, but it is also on the organization to enable it to happen, and give him the tools and support around him to enable it.

The sixers just let simmons be simmons. And never pushed him to get better. Part of the blame is on Simmons, part of the blame is on the sixers.

I personally was never high on simmons tho. Especially in todays NBA, simply being bigger stronger and faster than everyone is no longer a recipe for success.

Do you really believe the Sixers haven't been pushing Simmons to get better? That's crazy talk lol.

It's on Simmons. The guy is skilled, has good handles at his height, he's a really good passer and has good court vision, and when he's motivated he's terrific attacking the rim and scoring inside even in post-up situations. The frustrating part is how in this series he displayed very few of those, and just completely stopped looking at the rim. It's in his head just like at the free throw line where he all of a sudden became this all-time god awful free throw shooter in the playoffs.

I mean he's only 24 and he's really accomplished already in his career in terms of personal awards, but this series against the Hawks he simply looked like he didn't give a shit anymore.

It’s very obvious the Sixers haven’t done enough.

I guess the same can be said for any player who ever underachieves, no? Just blame the team, not the player.

It’s more of a confidence thing. And not forcing him to grow.

Make him shoot 1 three per game. And 1 mid range shot per game.

Create an off season program that helps him learn to shoot.

Then once you see improvement, make him shoot 1.5 threes per game.

Then 1.75

Then 2

Iterate and make better.

But how they are now, they don’t create an environment to enable him to get better or build his confidence.

You can't be serious?

He's been asked to shoot for his entire career and he refuses

We see the off-season videos and shit of him balling out shooting threes, fade away jumpers, etc, and then before games he does the same shit and what does he do come game time? Passes up open jumpers and open layups.
