I mean, at the age of 35 averaging 25/8/7 i think anyone would be pissed.

But at the end of the day, Giannis was better. It's a regular season award, and Giannis put up better numbers and his team had a better record too. Literally checked all the boxes for a regular season MVP.

i mean, MVP is subjective so a dumb award anyway

lebum was spot on, it changes every year

sometimes it's best player best team, sometimes it's best stats, etc

obviously lebroon is the best player in the league, but by that logic he'd have won MVP every year since '04 (except maybe 1 or 2 for KD)

Ratings are down because NFL started aka nobody gives a fuck about NBA. Lakers already won the chip.

Eh, I mean it's a tough call because the numbers Giannis produced were pretty ridiculous. He was not only an absolute monster offensively, but he was equally as good defensively (hence the DPOY award). He helped anchor the best defense in the NBA.

I think when you talk about most valuable player, defense can absolutely be considered. While DPOY only focuses on defense, the MVP award should focus on EVERYTHING. Giannis averaged 30/14/6 to go along with 1 steal and 1 block per game and won DPOY.

It's hard to argue against that when he also was the clear cut leader on the best team in the NBA during the season. LeBron had an amazing season, and was definitely deserving but i can't really say Giannis wasn't deserving too. Maybe they should have pulled out the co-MVP strategy?

I don't care about the politics at all. The NFL does the same thing and I still enjoy watching every game.
The NBA's problem is just their bad history of tainted officiating. Especially in the playoffs. Since 2002!
LeBron is an all-time GOAT. I respect his greatness but he'll never surpass Kobe or Jordan in my eyes.

I think the difference between the way the NBA handles politics versus the NFL is that the NBA's is much more in your face. They have the BLM statement on the court and their little political musings on the back of their jerseys, so it's relevant every second of the game.

I wonder if it had been different if the players had agreed going in that anyone that participates in this season donates 100% of their salary towards whatever social charity they like. I'm sure a lot of players are all currently involved but at the end of the day people don't like being lectured about political things by people who live in mansions and post obnoxious shit on their social media sites all day. I can see being far more annoyed with it if I didn't love the game so much.

I agree. Also LeBron James has been the most vocal of all the players. Wasn't he trying to get the rest of the players to leave the Disney bubble? The Lakers and Clippers were the only two teams that had voted to cancel the rest of the playoffs. I'm glad they didn't do that even though the Rockets choked a tough playoff series as usual. We fell flat like a scared school girl in the fourth quarter of Game 2 and 3. Both games were tight going down to the 4th. Had we pulled out either game that series would've went to a Game 6 and likely a Game 7.

The crazy thing is LeBron James and Anthony Davis are going to win a ring together! Not that I'm shocked but I didn't think that would happen so fast. Especially without Avery Bradley. I've been amazed by playoff Rondo. A former champion, yes, but that dude quit on the Dallas Mavericks in the 2015 playoffs. Also Dwight Howard can become an NBA champion for the first time. I'm happy for Dwight! I've always admired and respected him even when people were taking shots at his flawed game. Well, I shouldn't get ahead of myself but I don't see any Eastern Conference team (Heat, Celtics) taking down the Lakers. They're hungry to win it all for Kobe Bryant.

I also don't believe the officiating is going to give the Heat or Celtics any favors in the NBA Finals vs. the Lakers. It's a wrap!

Giannis (the jsp user) is so bitter he can't take it, poor guy is probably depressed at this point.

I think I'd rather be in my situation, where my team disappointed me all season long and disappointed me in the playoffs and i was kind of used to it or numb to losing by that point. Compared to dominating all season, getting the #1 seed and being the favorite in the East with the DPOY and MVP on your team only to get knocked out in the 2nd round by a 5th seed lmfao

If their officiating has been poor since 2002, why were the ratings higher until this year? One would think a lot of people are more available to watch NBA playoffs in 2020 as well. Streaming may be a significant factor; probably among younger people more so.

I had started watching the nba last year and they totally Turned me off with the officiating and how much they involve politics into the sport atm. I watch sport to disconnect from this stuff, not to watch politics. Especially how its one sided support without criticism for the violence, riots, murder, looting from blm.
