When it first came out, July 6th I believe (I registered the 7th via New Zealand), the footsteps worked and THAT was the main thing about the game. Fuck gyms, fuck leveling, I wanted to catch them all. Whever I had a greyed out pokemon, I walked/rode my bike and tracked it down. I could spend 10 minutes just looking for a pokemon and ignored the pidgeys and whatnot that spawned meanwhile. Then, like a week after, we had I think two full days of at least 70% downtime. After that, it went up evening of 15th or 14th and the 3 step bug was real. I couldn't track shit, I just went to the city and did my usual rounds of where I knew some shit pokemon spawned. Sometimes I found a Dratini or a Squirtle, but most of the time just Poliwags and Tentacools. The servers improbed immensely and I think we've had like 99% uptime SINCE they took the 3 step away. It's been great. But it's impossible to track pokemons. You can literally walk 100-200 meter in the wrong way before your tracker even moves the pokemon to another slot, you don't know if you're going the right way or not.
Niantic was at the Comic Con and was asked about it. He said they were AWARE of the bug. Nothing more. Now, a week after that, they remove the steps all together. Why? To implement a new feature? Clearly it wasn't taking a toll on the servers (99% uptime past three weeks, remember?). It just makes no sense. No communication. Nothing. Some minor things here and there, like adding a COMPLETELY useless button. And now, this morning, they removed the, NOWADAYS, white picture that USED to have a map of where you caught a pokemon. It's just bad, all bad. I can't believe they're fucking us this hard.
They are only fucking you this hard if you are taking the game very seriously. And that's just what it is. A game. A month ago you didn't even have a care for the world when it came to Pokemon. Now it has taken control of your life to the point that any move that Niantic makes, makes you or breaks you. How sad is that Zeb. Chill out man, it's not the end of the world. There was life before Pokemon Go, their will be life after.
