The Rockets are 6-3 and getting better every day. They lost a valuable player in Fred VanVleet.
But they've got enough depth and pure talent to overcome losing an NBA champion at point guard.

Alperen Sengun said it in his post-game interview. They were pissed off after their losses to the Spurs, Thunder and Pistons.
Sengun said there's another elite level of basketball they can play when they're all locked in. So I like the growth they've shown.

A lot depends on what they can do before the trade deadline. A veteran point guard with playoff experience (battle tested) would be the final piece to a championship puzzle. I've been waiting since 1995 for the Houston Rockets to win another NBA Finals. They haven't even reached the NBA Finals since 1995 when they won back-to-back championships. I don't want this season to end in heartbreak. No more coming up short. They're going to get this thing done.

But Reed's development in year two (3rd overall pick) is critical for the Rockets long-term success.
He's becoming one of the best three-point shooters in the NBA this season. A steals machine also.

I'm curious where Stephen Curry was his second year in the NBA? He was shooting 44.2% from threes his second year.

Not to say Reed Sheppard is Steph Curry. Reed Sheppard is more like 4x NBA all-star Mark Price. But bigger and more athletic.

The Rockets have the Suns unprotected first-round pick in 2027 and 2029. With an option to swap the 2029 Phoenix first with the Dallas Mavericks' 2029 unprotected first-round pick. Whichever one is better. There's a chance that 2029 Dallas first-round pick could be top three. Potentially #1 overall. For sure a lottery pick anyway.

Of course I understand if the Rockets decide to trade those valuable future first-round picks to win an NBA Finals well before then.

We need to have a conversation about Reed Sheppard. 5-8 shooting threes last night.
His last three games his three-point shooting is 5-8, 4-6 and 4-7. He splashes the net.

What's remarkable is his confidence is rising. Last night he started 1-4 from deep and then knocked down four straight with ease.

Only thing you want to see Reed Sheppard do now is shoot threes in high volume. At least 10 or 12 attempts per game.

He's now shooting 50% threes for the season. Off to a scorching start in his second year.
The Rockets lead the NBA with 43% shooting from threes this season. Just unreal shooting.

Rockets struggled to shoot the past few years. Now they're the #1 team in the NBA in offensive rating and three-point shooting.
The Rockets still have the #8 defensive rating. Which obviously is no longer top two with OKC being #1. But I'll take that trade off.



I think Reed Sheppard is a bigger, stronger and more athletic version of former 4x NBA all-star Mark Price.
I'm not going to say he's Stephen Curry by any means. But Curry's career best in threes for a season? 45.5%.

Reed Sheppard struggled to get significant minutes as a rookie last year. Was inconsistent. Now he's playing with VanVleet's injury.

Rockets are a quiet 7-3 team that has so much depth. They legit have eight guys that can score. They're still getting better as a team.
