Not show up in the playoffs
Be paid 40 million as the 4th option
Hold the franchise hostage because they can't afford to lose that salary slot despite you being overpaid by a factor of 2

I'm assuming you didn't watch the Sixers in the playoffs the last two years?

Tobias was incredible defensively against the Raptors last year (21-22) in the first round. He gave Siakam fits and clamped him up, which was pretty impressive. Then this year he was once again good in the first round, but was particularly strong in the second round defensively (disappointed offensively though) especially in several games against Tatum limiting his outside shooting and limiting his impact for long stretches which helped get them that 3-2 lead that they ultimately blew lol. Many would agree he was the 76ers second best defender that series, and even though he disappeared offensively, he was relatively solid/good defensively.

I mean nobody is saying he's an all-nba defender by any means, but he has shown that he's very capable of defending 3's/4's pretty well at times and holding his own. He's not particularly great against smaller quicker guards because his lateral quickness leaves much to be desired, but he's got size and length and holds his ground well plus he's a high IQ guy. If he had elite athleticism he'd be an all-star, but he doesn't so that's what holds him back from being more than just a "good" but not all-star caliber player.

In all seriousness Tobias is better than people give him credit for. He’s good, not great. The issue always has been he’s on a contract that pays him much more than he should make, especially for his current role being the 4th option. When they signed him they couldn’t have accounted for the emergence of Maxey. He barely misses regular season games, can score in a variety of ways, improved defensively over the years. You really just shouldn’t be a 4th option on offense making that much money. With the amount of money he makes and the role he plays now its just made fans hate him more

And now he finally has some value since he’s an expiring contract with the new CBA rules about to be in place, so I get why the Sixers don’t want to just give him away for nothing, still have to be realistic though like that Cavs trade was ridiculous
