Raps - makes no sense because he already had his Championship window there(and they were on their knees sucking his dick as an organization) and he still didn't care. it was pretty clear they'd be able to run it back and compete for a title. Uncle Dennis doesn't like Toronto either, big factor
Knicks - Thibs and Kawhi would clash too much. Kawhi wants to take off too many regular season games, could only see this being a possibility if there was some influencer to convince Thibbs to agree to load managing Kawhi (low chance)
Mavs - no cap space or assets
Warriors - they have 160 million on the books next season, only way this works is if they get someone who is dumb AF to take Wiggins or eat the poison pill to offload him onto someone else (OKC, Miami could be partners here but they don't have dumb GM's) maybe they could sweeten it, sign and trade Oubre or dangle Wiseman
Kings - aren't anywhere near promising enough to lure top talent
Lakers - could make this work if Kawhi is willing to take a discount, they'd be super terrifying if they pulled it off. not sure if Kawhi cares about competing with LeBron for legacy, if so then this move is a big no
Suns - one of the more realistic options on here actually, that'd be super interesting if the Suns could pull that off... but then again CP3 always getting injured in the playoffs seems like a pretty big strike against their legitimacy as a contender. maybe they could sign and trade Paul also? I doubt that'd happen
Spurs - scorched earth territory
Hawks - honestly I think this is the most likely option if Kawhi moves. Atlanta has the flexibility to become a very scary contender this off season
Heat - one of the top 3 most realistic choices here. one pause is the "Heat Culture" and clashing with Butler. Kawhi wants his ~20 games off and that doesn't exactly align with their expectations
so in order of most realistic in terms of weather, contention status, flexibility, Uncle Dennis being satisfied, and Kawhi being aligned with the organization
1) Hawks
2) Suns
3) Heat
Good analysis brotha.
But for me it's:
1. Clippers
2. Warriors
3. Suns
4. Heat
5. Hawks
Warriors at 2 and Suns at 3 due to distance from LA, which apparently is a huge factor for him. If distance isn't as big an issue as commonly believed then I can see Heat/Hawks higher than Warriors/Suns.
If he gone the Clippers are absolutely fucked and need to recoup picks (since they sold the farm to OKC). If the Minny pick conveys they can get a 4-10 + our own 14 + Wiseman + probably Poole. The value doesn't match Kawhi but it's something.
They'd be unable to tank as well due to having zero picks. So if they don't want Wiggins we can make the money work with an Oubre sign and trade (Oubre would have to agree to it). So the package would be: Minny 2021 pick (if it conveys (no deal if it doesn't)), #14, Wiseman, Poole, Oubre, 2022 or 2023 Warriors first, pick swaps.
