They added Kawhi...they already had Lowry, and Siakam broke out to a star that season as well. Not to mention the depth they had...

Come on man 😭

they added Marc Gasol at the deadline too, he was maybe their 3rd most impactful player to get past Embiid/Giannis

I mean agree he was big but he was a role player lol. He's past his prime, he was last year too but he played his part. I mean he averaged 9 points and 6 rebounds and shot 42% in the playoffs. He played his role...

Kawhi, Lowry, VanVleet, Siakam were all huge. Then role players like Gasol, Ibaka, Green, etc. did their part. I know fucking Ibaka killed us in that game 7...

They added Kawhi to a team that had everything but a #1 superstar.and Gasol filled that void to defend like you mentioned (Embiid ofc).

Clippers had horrible chemistry last year, all the reports of locker room arguments and bad blood internally...

Remember when this was an MVP conversation? We just gonna let the "Embiid outside chance" comment go?

In order of importance

Kawhi
Lowry
Siakam
Gasol
FVV

basic point is that two of their most important players were added in the same season that the Raptors won, the Clippers added PG and Kawhi while retaining pretty much everything else

this wasn't a case like the Heatles where the entire roster got overhauled or the Lakers who overhauled their entire roster (which the Lakers winning last year disproves your theory that a team needs more than a season of cohesion to win)

First off, the people who vote for MVP care about defense and they weigh how good your team was in the regular season even more. Jokic so far has no chance when compared to Embiid when you factor all of the voter's most important criteria. His team needs to play a lot better for him to win MVP.

Talking about which teams' playoff run was more impressive is a moot point in the current conversation.

I am not sure what point you're trying to make but the Clippers were an absolute mess last season and had bad chemistry...which was public knowledge. Its no secret they had issues internally amongst themselves. Not to mention PG13 was not even an All-Star last season, he looked really bad.

Idk how you're comparing that to a really good team that had chemistry and played incredible on both ends of the ball like Toronto. I hate them, but that was a complete team with Kawhi leading them.

Embiid IS the MVP so far though, it's hard to say otherwise when you look at how good the Sixers are with him, and how bad they are without him.

He is as important to his team as any player in the NBA.

the Raptors were never Championship favorites like the Clippers were based on talent

the Raptors fell ass backwards into a Championship and now in hindsight people can appreciate how good they were, through the season they weren't favored over any other team of the big 4 which were Boston, Philly, Milwaukee, and Toronto that season

the Clippers were a top 3 favorite to win the Chip consistently throughout the year with only the Lakers and Bucks having an edge as a title contender (at some points the Clippers were favored #1 and #2)

the Raptors were maybe a top 5 favorite the year they won with Golden State, Houston, Philly, and Milwaukee having an edge according to the betting and analysts

Talent talent talent

The Clippers were not a well oiled machine, and therefore were an underachieving mess. Period. They can have all the talent in the world it doesn't matter if they can't produce.

Plus, as I said Paul George was NOT good last season.
