I agree with everything you said except about Roy Williams, I dont agree with that. Roy has had a great career but if cal stays until old age his dynasty will be legendary. Everyone criticizes him for only coaching the best players, if that's the case Phil Jackson wasn't a great coach either having Jordan and Kobe his whole career.

So if kobe would have went to the nets like originally planned and played for cal in the nba and he won those championships with kobe would that have been coaching or recruiting? If Jackson would have coached college and brought in top players every year would that have been recruiting or coaching? You can argue coaches given good talent are just recruiting and coaches given the lesser are the only ones doing any coaching all day.

My point is that a superior coach like Coach K, Roy Williams, Tony Bennett, or Mark Turgeon would achieve better results than Coach Cal. with the same players.

But they can't get the same players, at least not in the quantity & with the frequency that cal can. It's an interesting conundrum.

turgeon is in his 4th year at maryland with no NCAA appearances. UK beat Turgeons scrubs in 12-13' with calliparis worst team to date. Has Turgeon or Tony Bennett ever upset anyone in the NCAA tournament lol? Lets be for real, coach k and roy williams have done nothing but win regular season games in recent years. Roy hasn't done much of anything past regular season and collapsed today on the court realizing uk was going to win lmao, coach k plays our best Olympic players and injures them before competition or uses the worst line ups possible, that being said anyone could coach the Olympic team based on your logic that players make teams not coaches right? So i guess thats not a credential for him anyway

You are practically making my point for me. That 2012-13 Kentuky team only won by 3 points at home to a vastly inferior MD roster that lacked a true point guard. Turgeon has never had a McDonald's all-American on his roster until this year, while that 2012-13 team, which was Coach Cal's worst team, still had 2 McDonalds all-Americans on it. If Calipari doesn't recruit a tremendous amount of talent, then he cannot hope to win. This is why he was beaten by an even more inferior Robert Morris squad: better coaches can win games by coaching their players up. Meanwhile, Turgeon can take a squad full of nobodies and compete with teams like Duke, UNC, and Virginia, which he did last year.

Don't get me wrong, Calipari provides a valuable service to his players by preparing them for the NBA, but he is not a good coach. Give an elite coach like Coach K, Roy Williams, or Mark Turgeon a lineup studded with McDonalds All-Americans and they'll make the Sweet-16 every year.
