Horford was playing awful bball on the 76ers and then wasn't even utilized when he went to OKC. There was definitely uncertainty there...
Celtics sent Timelord, Brogdon, a potential lotto 2029 1st and Golden States 2024 1st for Jrue. Jrue was talking about how he wanted to possibly retire soon, simultaneous to how much he loved playing in Milwaukee. All while being great mates with Giannis, so people were wondering if after the title maybe he felt like he had accomplished everything he wanted to in his career
KP being super injury prone and basically just a spot up 3 pt shooter in Dallas was also somewhat of a concern. I mean the Celtics were so stacked that it didn't matter on their run, but he was missing playoff games
The jrue trade is the only trade I was suss on, and that’s only because we included Rob when I felt we really didn’t need to. What I didn’t know was that Rob and Brogdan had career damning injuries, and they’d likely never get back to their best. which is unfortunate for them, because they are such amazing players when on the floor (which is rarely)
So yeah, insane trade win in hindsight but at the time probably a 50/50
Every single other trade by Stevens was a ✅
Best GM in the league would be an understatement. Has an amazing mind for all of basketball. We will continue to be dominant as long as he’s involved in some part of the Celtics organisation
Edit: you’re also talking about Horford in Philly and KP in Dallas, when they played for other teams prior to coming to Boston. Which is a bit weird. KP was a wizard before coming to Boston and was obviously far more than just a spot up 3 point shooter. One of the best post up players, and rim protectors in the league. I don’t really care how Horford played in Philly. Everyone knows that franchise has no idea how to utilise players. He’s been an absolute beast whenever he’s been in green.
