I get medicine and nutrition have improved so players are faster, stronger, taller, etc, but how have the fine motor skills and finesse improved so much? Before 7 footers were bricking free throws but now dropping dimes and hitting threes.

More time and effort into evolving their game into what is the optimal way to win.

Why after a decade of pro training are the past big men in their prime not as technically skilled as some of today's 7 ft teenagers with just rando high school coaches?

Could not agree more, and I’ve always said this.

The tall idiot on this forum loves to say how Embiid is a much better player than Shaq was, because he can guard the perimeter (well he can’t really, but old mate likes to claim he can), and is a good jump shooter.

But if Shaq was born in todays league, he’d likely be doing those things. The greats were great for a reason, they knew how to be better than their peers.

If if if

We are talking what they are. Not what it's

Players improve over time. Period. They're better and more skilled now than ever before. Offenses and defenses are way more complex than ever before as well. There's really no shame in it, it's supposed to be that way.

The league had nowhere near the international talent that it does now. That's a huge part of it too. Previously they picked from a much smaller pool of players. Now they pick from the entire world and scouting is so much more advanced able to find players anywhere.

You have to be one of the biggest idiots and hom3rs to actually think embitch and Shaq are equals . Hence why I say you have no idea what your watching.

Also, what embid is a lifelong 2nd round loser, that is what he is.

Lol Shaq is great, and the most dominant low post scorer ever. He would not fit in todays game though.

- He could not shoot or hit FT's
- He could not defend the pick & roll at all
- He could not defend outside of the paint at all
- He was an okay passer at best
- He couldn't face up from 3pt and take guys off the dribble

Like I said, great player for that era. Fit the game well. But in today's space and pace game that demands mobility, floor spacing, and versatility? Yeah, no chance. His style of play is long gone. Period.

Because they were not brought up doing it. It’s not as natural for them. Kids today watch curry and want to shoot 30 foot bombs

He would do all them things at an elite level if he were born in todays game

Embiid would not survive in the 90s as he is now with their physicality. So it goes both ways.
