Not much of a surprise. LeBron has a lot of time to return before the playoffs start exactly two months from now on May 22. But the Lakers have to be careful not to drop in the standings too much. With 15 losses they're not terribly far ahead of the 10th place Grizzlies at 20 losses.

The Lakers don't want to be in that play-in Tournament from May 18 to 21 just to fight for a 7th or 8th seed.
Not too long ago they looked like a lock for a top three seed. Things could get very interesting rather quickly.

The play-in Tournament is for the teams 7th through 10th. The Spurs are currently 7th with 17 losses. Two more than the Lakers!

It makes me upset that the Rockets didn't return Daryl Morey's phone call. They were intent not to trade James Harden to the 76ers. Not to say Brooklyn's deal was bad. Those unprotected firsts in 2024 and 2026 may pay off, but Ben Simmons is a guaranteed superstar. I'd rather have that instead of a million first-round picks. We may have three in the 2021 NBA draft. At some point you want to parlay numerous first-round picks into young talent. Established talent will always beat unknown draft talent.

The NBA fined Nick Nurse $50,000 for throwing his facemask behind the scorer’s table and toward the stands, while directing profanity toward an official. Nick Nurse laughed about the situation and called it "not a big deal." Nurse has decided to match the fine and make another $50,000 donation to his charity, The Nick Nurse Foundation, which will provide COVID-19 relief to children and adults with disabilities.
