We got Conley back which was huge.

Needed another good tall wing to help our bench. Gay is past his prime but be still produces and is a savvy veteran. At 6m/year, don't really see a downside for veteran presence off the bench. Still have Mitchell, Bojan, Conley, Clarkson as our main 4 scorers. Don't really need to require him to do a lot of scoring. Should be good.

Rudy Gay is a very solid pickup at that price. He's a good locker room guy too.

The only scenario I can see where this cut makes basketball sense is that Danny Green is leaving and they're planning on using the full MLE or a sign and trade to replace him, which they wouldn't be able to do with Hill on the books.
