They would absolutely lose leverage, if Davis doesn't add the Celtics to his list of teams he would sign an extension with, how would they get a better deal out of Boston than what the Lakers are offering now, like you said, Ainge isn't dumb. Pelicans would then be left until the next deadline or he's just going to walk away and they get nothing, GL getting the Lakers to pay up for half a season of Davis like they're willing to pay for a season on top of that. If the Pelicans want to guarantee a massive haul for Davis, they need to make the deal now.
He won't last in NO until the next deadline. He'll be dealt Thursday or during the offseason.
And i'm assuming if LA does offer extra 2x 1sts and 2x 2nds + taking on Hill's contract (via Woj), they will get the deal done.
Ainge has been wanting Davis for 3 years. It's looking like he believes landing AD would lock in Kyrie. A lot can change after the year....KG didn't want to sign here either. Worked out quite well in the end.
Another thing to consider...if we are believing everything coming out of ADs camp, The Lakers would have 83 million between Lebron, AD, Deng and Hill. They can't even make a play for any of the top FA at that point. Not sure how you would get rid of Hill if you trade 4x 1sts and 2x 2nds.
Unless AD isn't opting out of his current deal, which he has already stated he is NOT doing.
And if you believe that he would opt out to help after saying he isn't going to, then I will go ahead and believe he could re-sign with Boston as well.

I am 100% willing to wait for Summer and Hear Ainge offer, hes smart, he wont trade Tatum for a Rental, plus it gives us a chance to see if we can Sign a Star in Free Agency.
Signing a star first and then making the trade is even better for the Lakers. Salary situation wouldn't be an issue like it could be if you land AD with what the Pelicans are apparently requesting.
