Lakers just need to ride it out. Once they're sitting pretty atop the Western Conference standings near the trading deadline, I'm sure something big opens up at that time. I think the NBA set this year's trading deadline to March 15. So we have to see what happens until then. I'm thinking a three-way trade is still a possibility: Rockets get Pau Gasol, Lakers get Dwight Howard, Magic get Andrew Bynum, Luis Scola, Kevin Martin and the Knicks' 2012 first-round pick (courtesy of Houston).
Orlando can still get the best deal if they deal Dwight Howard to the Lakers, preferably in a three-team trade. The Magic would still have a playoff-caliber team in the Eastern Conference if they're smart enough to make the right trade. I don't like what Orlando would get if they made a trade with the Nets or Mavericks.
Wonder if Houston wants Pau anymore since Marc Gasol and Nene are off the market + Dwight would prolly already in La if they are willing to part with Gasol & Bynum. Thats seems the problem at the moment.
But good idea nevertheless, i am not seeing how the Lakers turn Bynum alone into Dwight. So adding both may be the only possibility to get him. I could see the Lakers part with both under certain conditions. Maybe tweak the trade with Scola going back to LA too, with Magic getting other value.
That would leave the Lakers with Fisher/Kobe/Turk/Scola/Dwight
bench: Blake, Artest , Barnes, McRoberts
Cons: contract of Turk
