According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, the NBA has concluded their investigation and the result is a fine:
The Los Angeles Lakers have been fined $500,000 for violating anti-tampering rules.

The penalty also reflected a previous warning issued to Johnson for his comments on the Jimmy Kimmel show regarding winking at George to come to the L.A. if he saw him on vacation.

While the fine is not ideal, the punishment could have been a lot worse so the front office has to be giving out a sigh of relief right now.

Glad this didn't happen below
1) The Lakers give up $5 Million.
2) The Lakers lose draft picks.
3) Paul George is PROHIBITED from joining the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers have the cap space to sign two max free agents in 2018, and will now certainly have George in their sights as the Los Angeles native has already said that he plans to sign with the Lakers next summer.

Dodged a bullet lol

However, the NBA blew it Thursday by not punishing the Lakers more after determining that the front office tampered, in regard to All-Star forward Paul George. The league had a prime opportunity to say interfering with a contractual relationship between a player (particularly a superstar) and a team is inexcusable.

The NBA should have barred the Lakers from signing George once he becomes an unrestricted free agent, either next summer or the summer after that (George has a $20.5 million player option for 2018-19)

The league said in a news release Thursday that an independent law firm, hired to investigate allegations, established that Rob Pelinka, the Lakers’ general manager, had discussions with George’s agent expressing interest in George. The NBA also announced it had previously warned the Lakers about tampering, after president of basketball operations Magic Johnson made comments about George in April on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

The NBA fined the Los Angeles Lakers $500,000 Thursday for violating the rule against tampering. The accusation involved Lakers executives Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka.
