Daryl Morey on joining Sixers

as much as i love morey, i don't understand how he will benefit a team built around nothing but bigs

morey is a master at rethinking how to utilize players to their strengths (ie harden as a PG not a SG) but i'm not sure you can rethink the gameplan for a 7 foot point guard who can't shoot jumpers...

It's very much possible, considering the Sixers had a top 5 offense at one point in the past with Simmons running full time point guard. The difference then was they had shooters, like really consistent shooters that could pull up which they don't have many of now.

Nobody has assisted on more 3's since his NBA debut three seasons ago than Ben Simmons. He has crazy good court vision and knows how to find the open man, and if there are real shooting threats around him he can eat because he's beating guys off the dribble all day or bullying them in the paint in post up situations (which he's good at). If they bring extra help he finds the open man. The issue is this team last season was stagnant and the awful coaching from BB didn't help because nobody moved off the ball like they should have been. The Horford experiment didn't work either, because he's clearly not a PF and is best fit as a stretch 5.

I think ultimately Simmons will stay as a "point forward" though and they will need to get another ball handler. Shake looks promising (he's already a great shooter) but his ball handling came into question in the playoffs when Marcus Smart was up in his face and he didn't look confident handling the ball.

Pull a trade for CP3 involving Horford and i'll be a happy man lol. I mean, if anyone could pull it off, it would be Morey right?

i mean, at that point you're hoping for CP3, simmons, embiid, and then spot up shooters (which you don't have anymore)

the problem with the rockets these last few years was that when harden isn't handling the ball, everyone else was stagnant, nobody could create offense

paul did, but then he got hurt all the time like the bitch he truly is

westbrook wasn't a threat to shoot and would drive to the hoop out of control and a pass to the outside that's even 6 inches off gives the defense time to react

i like the idea of simmons and cp3 facilitating, but you've got horford's contract that nobody wants, tobias' contract that nobody wants, and no spot up shooters lol

Tobias isn't really the issue though, he'll be fine with a head coach that uses him properly as Doc did in the past before he was traded from LA to Philly (when he was balling out). He's a good shooter and with Doc coaching now we'll actually utilize P&R plays where Tobias excelled in LA. I mean last season was funky for him, but then again he was trying to do too much and be a player that he's not in a weird offense with no spacing. If he plays his game and isn't asked to create his own shots so much, he'll give us 20+ a game on efficient shooting as he has always done and be a nice scoring option on the wing. This falls back to needing another ball handler though, so Tobias isn't trying to be superman with garbage shot selection.

Horford, eh that's a different story it doesn't sound like Doc is going to be too fond of him but he'll be utilized as a backup Center for sure. No way they try to start him & Embiid again. He may just end up being an really highly paid backup C unfortunately, which at this point would be fine if he plays at a relatively high level lol.



No doubt, neither will be traded anytime soon I think we can all agree on that. It'll be interesting to see how Morey and Brand handle the team around them though. I'd expect to see what Doc can do with the current team first, and see what type of difference a change in coaching has.

Watching the live intro press conference now with Morey, Josh Harris, along with General Manager Elton Brand & Head Coach Doc Rivers.

When asked about shooting threes, Morey said "the goal is not to shoot threes, the goal is to win. Embiid is one of the most efficient post-up scorers in the league, so we're going to use him there often." He also said "Our team in Houston shot a lot of threes because that's how we could best utilize the roster we assembled"

Also just said this:

"Our roster is very good, but our championship team is probably not going to have the same exact players that are on it right now"

Harris will stay, like I said Doc likes him and he was All-Star caliber in LA 2 seasons ago under Doc.
