How many draft picks we got?
You own the Rockets' first-round pick in the 2015 draft (top 14 protected), The Rockets will make the playoffs so that's guaranteed for you. You can also get your own first-round pick (top 5 protected) if you tank this season. The Suns will get your first round pick in 2015 if it's pick six or higher.
Now trade Jordan Hill to Houston for the rights to the Pelicans' first-round pick. If you do so you could have three first-round picks. I think it would benefit both the Lakers and Rockets. We need another veteran big man for depth purposes. While you should be thinking about your future. You are rebuilding.
The Lakers could load up on a boat load of young talent: Three first-round players in the 2015 draft to go along with Julius Randle coming back next season. You could piece together a ton of young talent by the time Kobe Bryant retires. And then you'll also have a ton of money to spend in free agency to surround that young talent.
If the Lakers play their cards right they could become a playoff team again a year or two after Kobe retires.
It's not going to happen while Kobe is still playing. He's being paid too much and the supporting cast stinks.
The Lakers need to tank. Actually they'll keep losing even if they play hard. Make sure you get that top five protected pick.
