It should be a great fit. Smart isn’t the scoring threat Brogdon can be, so his playmaking becomes limited and GS just forced him and White to be scorers. Likely can’t do that against a shooter like Brogdon.
I don’t think he’ll suck since he is heading into a scenario where he should be able to play more freely, but no doubt that it could fail miserably if he and Smart don’t figure it out quick…I think Smart just wants to win now though, so I am not too concerned.
Still need a legit backup C.
Brogdon as a scorer and playmaker > Smart
Not a bad defender either, just not ideal for him to defend smaller/quicker point guards that are good at creating their own shot because he lacks turn speed. He's good defending bigger 2's or wings though. Either way, he fits relatively well into their defensive approach with being versatile.
I know he will be coming off the bench, but I would imagine the Celtics will go to a lineup of Smart/Brogdon/Brown/Tatum/Williams (or Horford instead of Williams) especially late in the game.
