Honestly I think the FO keeps Beal this season. They wanted to see Beal play with Westbrook. They gave up assets to do it. Westbrook is garbage right now, but he's also injured, so maybe he returns to form (doubtful, but possible).

To the rational observer it makes no sense—it's a sunk cost fallacy to hope Westbrook makes this team a contender—but I think they hold out for the slim chance that things work out like they had hoped it would.

I think they're realizing Westbrook is a lot more baggage than they bargained for. I bet Beal gets traded and they go for a rebuild. Outside of Westbrook and Beal you really don't recognize hardly any names other than washed up Lopez.

theyre over the cap next season with only 8 guys signed

76ers have access to the full mid-level exception (up to $9M). They also have trade exception from the Horford trade. All in all they have three exceptions available to them (which can be used in any future trades or signings). They're in MUCH better position after the Horford trade and have much more flexibility.

They have a multitude of ways they can improve and bolster their roster for the foreseeable future.

The first aspect is the amount of moveable contracts that the team has acquired in the wake of the Horford deal. The Sixers have five new contracts — four of which are expiring — making $3 million or more outside of the Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, and Tobias Harris trio that have neutral or positive value. They can package any of these contracts to match salary in the event of a future trade. Outside of contracts, the Sixers have three trade exceptions mentioned above in which they can use to sign or trade for talent.

I doubt those can be combined to acquire a player of Beals pay rate. Theyd have to do all of those exceptions individually and trade all of those assets for Beal. And that's assuming the money works even after that.

What are the values of the exceptions?

Washington also has to be willing to play ball. They could become another Thunder (acquiring bad contracts for incentives) and that should get them into the rebuilding stage much quicker.

If all Philly has are some projected extremely late first rounders, scrubs on the bench, and some trade exceptions or guys acquired through the use of them then the Magechildren should look elsewhere for a deal.

Our owner isn't one to embrace the concept of rebuild. He'd rather quick-fix to get a treadmill team than go full Hinkie and tank to build a contender. And he's meddlesome with our GM's decision-making, so he's not ever going to let a full rebuild happen, even if it's painfully obvious that a rebuild is exactly what this team needs, and we should do it while we have a tradeable asset to jumpstart the process.
