Anthony Davis is a young top five superstar. I don't think he can carry a team for a full season, but for a few weeks at a time without LeBron? He's good enough to have the Lakers still sitting pretty with a .500 record or better. The Western Conference is going to be brutal this year. Especially if the Warriors are back and the Pelicans, Suns, Spurs and Kings make that leap to playoff contention. That's not counting all the powerhouses like the Clippers, Nuggets, Jazz, Thunder and Rockets.

You don't want to fool around too much having LeBron James resting. That could be the difference in the 1st or 2nd seed, and the 5th or 6th seed for the Lakers. The lowest seed to win an NBA Title was the 1995 Houston Rockets which repeated as NBA champions as a 6th seed. Could the Lakers do that? Maybe. I could see the Lakers sleepwalking and coasting through the regular-season and then "turning it up" once the playoffs start.

I'm an old man. I know what an old man looks like. LeBron James is an old man! But his body is built like a Greek God. He's a well-oiled machine!

Damn, you are selling AD pretty low. There are only a few players in the NBA that can carry a team for a season and I definitely think he's on that list.

I've seen some people on Twitter speculating that Chris Paul could join LeBron and AD on the LA Lakers!
How is that possible? Do they have the contracts to pull it off? I doubt OKC will just release him outright.

The funny thing is I had Daryl Morey on my short list for the Houston Texans GM job. But analytics in football?
That didn't work very well for Sashi Brown and the Cleveland Browns. A guy with a Harvard law school degree.

Analytics are great for basketball and baseball. Don't get me wrong. But I feel like it's different in football.
I'd love for the Houston Texans to hire Peyton Manning as general manager. I can dream about it anyway!

The only way the Lakers can get his is via trade. They'd have to trade Danny Green, KCP, Bradley, Kuzma most likely but it could get done. Plus there could be a small window of time that AD isn't on the roster making the finances more flexible until he resigns and they can use his Bird rights to sign him if finances are an issue.

The Lakers should definitely look into it. They need to improve for sure if they want to win. They had a much easier path to winning the championship this year than what was expected. LAC and MIL were straight awful in the playoffs and GS will return to being a top tier team. Brooklyn is also a wild card if they are able to stay healthy and add another player or two and could become a real contender. Who knows what kind of All-in play Morey will be willing to make as the 76ers GM, he's gonna go for a championship immediately just like he always does when he feels he has even a small chance.

I agree but there will be a perfect time to rebuild in two more years. Right now they may as well try to win.
Don't have the draft picks to really do much anyway. Stephen Silas just needs some size and rebounding now.
Harden and Westbrook have three years left. They can both opt out in two years. $90M+ combined a year.

I like Anthony Davis. Now that he's an NBA champion he knows what it takes to win. Maybe he can carry a franchise now.
Maybe I was hard on him for quitting on New Orleans. When times got tough he crumbled. He's matured and gotten better.

Carrying a franchise is difficult. James Harden has done that for eight years now. It's not something just any player can do.
The Houston Rockets have the longest active streak in the NBA of consecutive playoff appearances. That's all Harden, IMO.

Dallas Mavericks assistant Stephen Silas is finalizing a deal to become the next head coach of the Houston Rockets, sources tell ESPN.

The Dallas Mavericks had a high-scoring offense and also implemented some size and rebounding into their fast-paced style of play. I'm not sure how the rest of the coaching staff will look like. There's talk that the Rockets may add one or two former NBA head coaches as assistants. One of them is likely John Lucas.

Maybe this is the right move for the Rockets. He had the respect of all the Dallas players.

Luka Doncic@luka7doncic·33m
well deserved!!

Now maybe this helps our chances to land Luka when he becomes a restricted free agent in two years. Same time James Harden can opt out. At some point we're going to replace James Harden and Russell Westbrook with two young superstars in their prime.

Okay I lol'ed.

I think wherever Paul plays next year they will take an approach to keep him healthy and not overwork him during the regular season. Paul has some elite skills that won't age. He is one of the better shooters, passers, higher IQ guys in the NBA. None of those skills diminish. He may lose a little quickness but he can still play a huge role on a team if kept healthy.

I don't think it's a terrible idea to let someone like Lebron take a rest. The only thing that matters is the playoffs and the team isn't going to fall out of contention for the playoffs if he misses 10 games. They would probably only lost 1-2 extra games without him if he did sit. He's played so many games compared to most players over the past years from all the Finals and the Olympics. He also will have a shortened offseason next year if the Lakers go deep into the playoffs and he decides to make 1 more trip to the olympics. So sitting to start the season is probably a good idea.

I was surprised to see Morey get a job so quick. I kinda thought he was stepping away for the time being. He would have it much easier in the East building a team compared to what he has had to compete with in the West year after year.

IQ diminishes on jsp
