Pro athletes aren't paid on whether a league makes a profit or loss. They're paid from revenue like any other company you work for. The WNBA has 10x'd in revenue and that growth is directly tied to the players and their popularity (Clark, Reese, etc).
NBA players receive around 50% of league revenue. WNBA players currently receive less than 10% of league revenue. They don't want equal pay dollar to dollar, they just want an equal piece of the pie.
Plus, for the WNBA and the whole losing money thing. There are non-cash items like depreciation that drop the net income on paper. There are also non-recurring things like major investments that make it look like the league isn't profitable from that sense, but those are investments that are growing the league and building it for the future making it look like the league is bleeding money right now.
I'm all for making fun of the WNBA but they absolutely have a case to ask for more of the league revenue.
Tbh I didn’t even know that
If revenue is up and the players aren’t receiving higher salaries then you’re probably right that they should be paid proportionally to how how much revenue their league makes
Tbh I never even looked into it I just figured they were bitchin for no reason
