LAL 2020 2.59/2.35/3.13/-0.61 (1.865 average) <---54.2% lower than median

The highest rated opponent the 2020 Lakers faced (the Rockets) is still lower than the lowest rated opponent the 1995 Rockets faced as well as the 2001, 2002 and 2010 Lakers.

What really shocks me is how difficult all of Kobe's paths were. He never faced a bad team and always battled the giants.

Doesn’t their ranking count for something as well? Wouldn’t differential between be more indicative of a “tougher road,” than just simply strength of team. (Which in itself is impossible to compare across different eras of b-ball.)

This is voyaging type shit. Utilize a stat you have no understanding of in order to make a petty point bc you’re salty abt one thing or another

I googled SRS to understand how it is derived and this can be found here:

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/index4837.html?p=37

The same formula applies to the nba, where the 2 key variables are average point differential and SOS. The author of the stat also notes that it is a predictive stat and a horrible retrodictive stat (he gives a variety of reasons in the article above), which is perfect for my point bc you are using the stat retrospectively AKA in the exact opposite way the author of the stat intended its use.

He terms it predictive and retrodictive in the article so I used his terminology but I think it would be more correct to say prospectively and retrospectively..at least in science

The Lakers really blew that game. I still can't see the Heat beating the Lakers but now the window of opportunity is wide open. This has become an unexpected finals result to this point but a 4-2 Finals would still go down as not entirely unreasonable on paper. I was thinking that if the Heat could get a second win, it would be in game 6.

Does it take injuries into account like last season when KD and Klay got hurt or does it see them as full strength GS?
